Ozark Tiger E-News
WEEKLY NEWS HIGHLIGHTING OUR STUDENTS & STAFF
Conferences are held in the spring for junior high and high school students.
Ozark School District is seeking volunteers to help plan for the current and future growth of the District. Our goal is to evaluate and update our long range plan so we can properly manage our growth in a timely and fiscally-responsible manner. Stakeholders of the District — school staff, community leaders, business leaders, parents and patrons — are needed to help us establish priorities for this plan through a series of three planning meetings:
- Thursday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Ozark Middle School.
- Thursday, November 8 TBD
- Tuesday, January 29 TBD
Free childcare will be provided for parents during each meeting. Dinner will be provided at the October 11 meeting. Children will be grouped by age. Each group will be supervised by a paid staff member along with high school student volunteers. We will have fun games and age appropriate activities for each group. Specific location details will be provided prior to the meeting.
For more information or to register to participate on the task force, visit www.ozarktigers.org/longrangeplan.

Stock Market Game
Ozark Middle School KITES students participated in the Stock Market Game and each team invested $100,000 of virtual money. To help students learn about investing, Josh Kitchin, a financial advisor with Edward Jones in Springfield, visited Oct. 2 and Oct. 3. He talked about how to regularly invest part of your income and how it pays off in the long-run. Students also learned that a financial advisor is a good career for people who like math and like to help others reach their goals.
Book surprise!
Why are these Ozark Middle School students so excited? Because their teacher, Ms. Burkeen, just gifted them a brand new book and told them they’ll receive a new one each month. She even personalized the inside the covers and encouraged the students to write their names inside.
Get low, stay low. Get out, stay out.
Kindergarten and first grade students enjoyed a visit from the Ozark Fire Protection District this week. Firefighters showed off their protective equipment, getting in full gear to illustrate what firefighters look and sound like when inside a house fire. OFPD Fire Marshall Don Gregory stressed that children should never hide from firefighters, even though it is a scary situation. Along with the phrase “Stop, drop and roll,” Gregory told students to remember “Get low, stay low. Get out, stay out.”
October is National Fire Prevention Month.

South Prize Patrol
Every month, students with perfect attendance are entered into a drawing to have pizza for the entire family delivered to their house by the Prize Patrol.
"We want everyone to know attendance is a family goal," Fitzpatrick said.
‘The Odyssey’ Escape
In today’s world filled with technology at our fingertips, it can sometimes be difficult to find ways to engage students in an ancient poem — like Homer’s 8th century B.C. Greek poem, “The Odyssey.”
“I had really been wanting to focus on student engagement and a deeper level of thinking and problem solving skills,” Ozark Junior High English teacher Briea Williams said. “A digital breakout is a way to get basic information to students instead of lecturing.”
A digital breakout is like an escape room but completed on the computer.

That's a rap!
Junior High students in French I class are putting their love for YouTube videos to good use, making rap videos in French. Teacher Dallas Eoff said the project not only requires students to learn a French song, but is engaging and teaches time management and critical thinking skills.
