Spring '18 SUB Elections

Hi I’m Sam and I’m a junior here. I care about bagels, beavers, and administrative accountability. I think SUB should be more active in representing the wants and needs of the student body that has elected them. In four years at PC, each of you contributes $800 in student activity fees1 that SUB distributes for senior projects, speakers, and events. You also pay approximately $30,000 a year to attend this school, and you don’t get to decide how that money is spent. I’ve been here for almost two years and continues to see classes cut and programs “restructured”, and we as students need to demand our rights are respected.
Half of the mission statement of SUB is “acting as a liaison between the student body and administration”2, and I personally don’t feel the current board has done enough to realize this power. As a SUB member I would make sure our perspectives are understood and respected by the administration. We are the reason this school exists, and we are responsible for shaping Prescott College into the school we want to attend, the school we chose to attend.
I worked in admissions for a year and a half and I know why students come here: they want to be respected as students and members of a community, and they want to have control over their education. Let’s make this more than an idea we strive to uphold. Let’s make this the way things are. Vote for those you feel represent you and please hold them accountable for the job they are requesting you grant them.

I would love to be apart of the Student Union Board because I am active in multiple clubs such as PAPSU, Lil’Antifu, Garden Club, and Ceramics Club which gives me insight on wishes of my fellow students and the many clubs. I want to be involved in the decisions that impact my peers. For me, that means ensuring that policies and procedures in place are in the best interest of the entire student body. I believe the Student Union should be a reliable force that ensures the school's policies align not only with the mission statement of Prescott College but also the ever-shifting beliefs and values of current students.
I want to be a resource and ally to the student body- I want to participate in conversation and forums as an advocate for the student body to enhance the overall experience at Prescott College. One of my strongest abilities is listening and practicing nonviolent communication which will be an asset in debates as well as forums and meetings that are open to the public. In high school, I was a part of student council for two consecutive years, where I practiced a lot of voting, planning, and debates, about school events, protocols, and rules. I have a good sense of when to step up and step down and my primary objective with SUB would be to listen and serve the student body honestly and equitably.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
