Mrs. Flynn's Class

Updates, Reminders, and Fun Things to Try!

Class News

MUSIC PROGRAM - Thursday, February 28th 7:00 Gym doors will open at 6:30. All students must wait with their parents until they are dismissed at 6:45. Students will then walk to the multi-purpose room to line up with their class. They will NOT be coming back - so please have them leave everything with you.

Planetarium Field Trip: March 6th. Unless you signed up for a school sack lunch, students need to bring a sack lunch with them. We will be walking outside some - and it will be chilly. Students need to wear comfortable walking shoes and a coat.

Spring Conferences - I've contacted parents of students who I would like to have a conference with. Grade cards will go home March 18th. The Monday after spring break.

**TESTING** After spring break we start State Testing followed by MAP testing. Our time slots are Monday's at 8:15 - We test the Monday we come back from spring break! Please make sure your child has plenty of sleep the night before and a filling breakfast. Students also need to arrive at school on time. When students walk in late, it is very distracting to those who have already started testing.

MATH We are in the last few lessons of Unit 6 and will take the Unit 6 test next week. Unit review packets are available on our 3rd-grade website. I will print a copy for you if you don't have access to a printer and your child will complete it, just let me know.

Communications: When we come back from spring break we will be on Unit 5 Week 3.

AR: Cutoff for third quarter AR is March 7th. Some students are very close to making their goal. As a reminder not only do they have to have their point goal made - but they have to be at 80% comprehension.

Enjoy your spring break - I will give some students some pages they can work on - they are for extra credit and extra practice.

We are always looking for candy for our candy bucket.

General Class Information

Parent Communication

I feel communication between us is very important. I will send out emails, notices through Bloomz (more info below) and student work through seesaw. The two main apps I would like you to download if possible are Bloomz and seesaw. Bloomz will allow messaging for reminders, volunteer sign-ups (this is where our holiday party sign-ups are), class wishlist signups, student behavior monitoring, and eventually parent-teacher conference scheduling.

The other app is seesaw. This is a student portfolio app. This is not something that is required, but you will have access to see your student's work and some of the things they do,

AR (Accelerated Reader)

AR - Students read at home -suggested 20 minutes a night. They are given a point goal for the quarter. Picture books are worth .5, or half a point. Chapter books can range in point value depending on their content. In order for students to make their goal, they need to have reached their point goal along with keeping an overall 80% comprehension. Please encourage your child to take the AR quizzes. Students can only take quizzes at school. Parents can login to homeconnect (link below in the techie tools) with their student's login information and check their progress. You can also set it up to receive an email with your student's scores when they take a quiz.

Students will bring home their planner every night. They should have it filled out with they day's information, and parents should sign it nightly. Also, any extra work students do such as, get online on one of our classroom sites, study flashcards, study spelling words, or study math facts - write that in the planner and students will earn extra dojo points. Also, you can write transportation notes or questions in the planner.

School Store

School store is normally on the first Friday of the month. Students may bring money to purchase panther related items at lunch.
