The Middle View
Garden City Middle School ~ Winter 2021
📆FEBRUARY 2021 "Hybrid Calendar"
The "A-K" and "L-Z" portion of this calendar should continue to be used for any and all students until they return on a full-time basis.
For example, sixth grade students that are returning full time on Monday, February 1st, will NOT follow the "A-K" and "L-Z" portion of the calendar any longer because they will be in school every day. Students that selected the "every other day/hybrid" model should follow the "A-K" and "L-Z" portion of the calendar.
ALL students will continue to follow the Day 1 and Day 2 schedule.
📌Welcoming Back our Sixth Grade Students
We are offering our sixth grade students the opportunity to attend school full time beginning Monday, February 1st. We are excited to welcome them back!
Here are a few logistical and safety updates:
1) Our arrival and dismissal drop-off and pick-up will be more congested. We are kindly asking that you or your child continue to have the self-screening app ready and enlarged on your phone so that we can keep traffic moving.
2) Each and every student desk will have a desk shield/guard that borders three sides of the desk.
3) Students will no longer be socially distanced by six feet. The distance between students will vary from one room to the next depending on class enrollment and room size.
4) I am happy to report a “compromise” with respect to lunch in order to ensure a safer lunch experience. Since students will need to remove their face coverings to eat, we will stagger how many students eat at one time. This will allow our students to socially distance as they are eating. In other words, approximately half of the students will eat during the first half of the period, while the others continue wearing their masks, and then they will switch half way through the lunch period.
5) Each student will have an “assigned seat” for every class including lunch. Each teacher and administrator will have access to the seating charts for immediate contact tracing purposes.
6) If a student tests positive, any student sitting within a six foot radius around that child in any of his/her classes may be required to quarantine for ten days. An email will be sent to all parents notifying them of the quarantine requirement.
7) Of course, students can and should be “Zooming” in to their classes if they are asked to quarantine – unless they are too sick themselves of course.
8) We are kindly asking that you reiterate to your child(ren) the importance of wearing their masks and wearing them properly. Overall, the students have been INCREDIBLE with wearing their face covering; however, this will become even more important as we fully reopen.
9) Locker usage will continue to not be permitted until further notice. Students tend to gather around their lockers and that would increase chances of transmission and impede contact tracing efforts.
10) As a reminder, classroom windows are kept open during these colder months as suggested by the CDC and DOH. Please remind your child to dress accordingly.
11) Please be sure that your child’s Chromebook is charged every night before they come to school. If possible, remind your child to bring his or her charger to and from school every day.
