Students will participate in the Claxton "Wall of Fame" photo shoot this Friday.

Co Teaching with Ms. Turner!

My name is Ann Turner. I have been teaching in Asheville City Schools for 8 years. I earned my Literature, Language, and Creative Writing from UNCA, and I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching from Western Carolina University. Throughout my master’s program, I participated in coursework that covered the standard course of study, standards based content and delivery, and positive behavior supports. As an Exceptional Children's teacher, my expertise lies in modifying content and supporting delivery of lessons so that all students benefit based on their strengths, needs, and learning styles. My teaching philosophy draws heavily from my love of stories, making connections, and facilitating discussion and questioning. I have always been amazed at how unique and talented the students are at Claxton. It is a joy to teach here with fabulous staff and amazing students.

Homework Reminder

Homework math packets and graded work will be sent home on Thursdays and are due the following Thursday. Students should read at least 30 minutes each evening and then complete book reviews during writing in class. Follow the links below for help with math homework. We have 3 fun opportunities coming up for you to participate at school:

Consider teaching an After-School Arts class!

The Claxton After School Arts program wants to be sure that we are exploring all opportunities offered by the depth of talent that Asheville offers. If you can recommend a program/artist that you would like to see featured in our After School Arts program, please let us know! Candidates would need strong classroom management skills and a passion for inspiring the arts in children. The ten week semester begins in February, and instructors are compensated. Please email Elizabeth Callahan, with ideas and suggestions.

Help out with the MLK Day of Service!

Fifth graders will be doing community service around town on Friday, Jan. 15th, and we need chaperones and food donations for breakfast. See the signup sheet here:

Show prospective parents around the school you love!

Open house tours are coming up for prospective families to see our school as they decide where to enroll their children. We need tour guides and greeters! Watch for the parent newsletter (Claxton Parent News) this week with a link to the signup sheet.

Washington DC Update

Please send in a deposit for your students Washington DC Field Trip. If possible, please use our online payment service.

EOG Projected Dates

Asheville City Schools will conduct EOG testing during the last 10 academic days of school. Currently, that means beginning on the 24th of May and concluding on the last day of school, June 7th. This certainly is contingent on snow days, so fully expect for these days to shift later into June. Your fifth grader will be assessed in reading, math, and science.
