Week of March 2-6, 2020
A Note From Mrs. Garrison
Primary Election Day is Tuesday, March 3rd! Powell has been designated as a voting site. In an effort to ensure the safety of your children and our staff, we will have a closed campus and are asking that you do not come for lunch. As always, if you need to drop something off at the front desk, please feel free to do so. Please check https://elections.mctx.org/ for other polling locations.
Friday, March 6th is an Early Release Day. Please remember that school dismisses at 12:10.
Enjoy the weekend!

The Positivity Project Strength of the Week: Cheering Others' Success
From Mrs. Nixon
As the school counselor, my goal is to work with students to help them have the best learning and social experiences possible at Powell Elementary. I am offering a counseling group called FISH (Families In Separate Houses) to 2nd-4th grade students. Students will have the opportunity to explore their ideas, attitudes and feelings. We will discuss life skills and strategies that enhance their ability to succeed socially as well as cope with stressful situations. Students will meet one day a week for six weeks while eating their lunch with the group.
Please complete the form attached below if you would like your child to participate in the FISH counseling group.
Save the date! The Spring Book Fair is Coming!

We need volunteers!
Sign up to help and get a $5 gift certificate to the book fair!!Car line
In an effort to keep all of our students safe during morning car rider line, we would like to make some small adjustments to drop-off procedures. In the morning, we have students being dropped off for Choir and Powell Patrol. The Choir and Powell Patrol parents often get stuck behind other cars waiting in the regular car line. Starting Tuesday, if you arrive before 7:30 and will be waiting with your child in the regular car line, do not pull up past the stop sign at the end of the porch. This will allow students arriving for Choir and Powell Patrol to be dropped off safely as their parents can pull up to the front of the school. When car line begins moving at 7:30, please stay in line and one of our Powell Patrol helpers will open the car door for your child. If you must park in order to get your child out, wait for the car line to stop before walking your child across the line of traffic.

Pre K for the 2020-2021 School Year
Conroe ISD will be expanding all current half-day prekindergarten programs to full day in the 2020-21 school year. Currently, Houser and Houston Elementary Schools are the only campuses to operate full-day prekindergarten programs. The expansion is in response to the House Bill 3 requirement that all prekindergarten programs operate as full-day programs. Registration for the 2020-21 school year will take place April 20-24. Eligibility determination and enrollment will take place at the elementary school to which the student is zoned. Please visit www.conroeisd.net/ci/early-childhood/ for more information.
