PRAIRIE POST

January 19, 2018

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians of the PAWSOME PUMAS,

First and foremost, I can not thank you enough for entrusting us with your children each and every day at Prairie. Our goal is to ensure that your son/daughter does not just grow academically but socially and emotionally as well. When we look at the entire child, we are able to create environments that will grow our community and facilitate positive change in our world.

Weather: Thank you for making sure that your children are dressed appropriately for the weather. In the event that we have indoor recess, we have revised a plan to ensure that our scholars are active and engaged. We have had the opportunity to exercise this plan, and it has been successful with our scholars utilizing the MakerSpace and the Library. I want to thank the Educational Assistants and our school library aide for their collaborative efforts.

Puma Time: This week we began to revamp our intervention time at Prairie, and it is called Puma Time. This allows us to provide additional academic supports for some of our scholars. The educators collectively decided to share some of their passion with the scholars in the building such as coding, learning about chess, and photography. Each course is driven by learning. Scholars had the opportunity to select their top four choices. The scholars will rotate to a new course after next week. The educators and scholars are enjoying the opportunity to collaborate with other scholars from different grade levels and educators. I can truly tell you this experience is enhancing the culture of Prairie.

NO SCHOOL: Please remember that we will not have school on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The educators in the Waukesha School District will be coming together to learn together at the Waukesha One Conference.

Have a great weekend, stay warm, and we will see you on Wednesday.

Illness

It's the time of year . . . lots of colds, sore throats and stomach viruses. Please see the link below for guidelines on when to keep your child home from school. We ask that they be symptom free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.

Attendance Letters

Please note that you may be receiving attendance letters from our office if your child has been tardy more than ten times or absent for any or all of five or more days. These letters are automatically generated through our Infinite Campus Student Enrollment System. We do encourage you to get a medical excuse from your child's physician/dentist if you have appointments or if they have been seen and recommended to be out of school for a certain period of time. These absences classified as medical do not count in the days that can be excused by parents. Attendance can be viewed in your Infinite Campus Parent Portal at any time.

4K Enrollment for 2018-19

Do you have a child that will be 4 years old prior to September 1, 2018? Our district's 4K priority enrollment ends on February 2nd! Please click here for a flyer showing when and where to enroll. Prairie is a 4K site with an all day program.

In District School Choice

The In District School Choice enrollment period opens today, December 1, 2017 and closes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018. If you are considering having your child attend a school within the District that is not your neighborhood school, you must complete an In-District Transfer/School Choice Request. If you are interested in more than one school, please fill out a separate application for each school that you are requesting.

Here is the link to the District website detailing the procedures and important dates. There is a link there for online submission of your application as well.

Inclement Weather

Our District Superintendent, Mr. Gray, has issued a statement regarding the decision making process on whether or not to close school during winter inclement weather. Please click here to read his letter. The district will update their website as soon as possible when weather conditions warrant a school closing.
