Broad Street Newsletter
November 2023
A message from Ms. Alexander, Principal
Hello and Happy November! On Monday, October 30, we had a Community Meeting where I challenged the students to collect 60 lbs of coins to donate to Operation Wildcat. While setting goals is part of our CATS norms, the bigger message around Pennies for Pies is having the students work together as a building-wide team to reach the goal. Additionally the proceeds go to support Operation Wildcat and this aligns with the S in our CATS - serving others. I plan to announce the final weight on Friday afternoon. Ask your child if we met the 60 lb goal.
I also want to inform you that Miss Aria Garling will be joining our Broad Street team to teach music while Mrs. Hoffman is out.
Finally, I hope to see you on Thursday at the Broad Street Community Dinner. This is an opportunity for staff and families to come together to socialize. Dinner will be served from 5:00 - 6:15 PM, and it's FREE!!!

Operation Wildcat Pennies for Pies
October 30th - November 3rd
Put your spare change toward a great cause. All proceeds from our Pennies for Pies fundraiser will go to support Operation Wildcat and provide Thanksgiving pies to families in need in our community. We will be collecting coins October 30th-November 3rd.
Here’s how it works:
· Containers are located in each classroom
· Students will be asked to bring in spare change
· All classroom jars will be emptied into a school jar.
· We will weigh our school jar each morning to see if we can beat our goal.
· At the end of the day on November 3rd, all change will be counted and donated.
Start saving your change—it can make a big difference!
· Last year we collected 59 pounds of coins, totaling $421.59.
· Our goal this year will be to collect 60 pounds
Operation Wildcat Thanksgiving Food Drive

Holiday Support for Your Family: OW Project Thanksgiving and Project Giftbox
In October, Operation Wildcat sent the MASD families an OW newsletter regarding the various OW projects happening in the upcoming holiday seasons. Listed down below are the various projects and how to sign up for assistance.
Project Thanksgiving Distribution - Are you aware that Operation Wildcat provides Thanksgiving baskets to families in need in our district? These baskets include a turkey, canned goods, rolls and a pie…..everything you need to make a Thanksgiving meal. If your family could benefit from one of these baskets, please complete the google form with your needs. We would love to be able to help your family receive one of these baskets! Distribution will be Monday November 20th from 5-7pm in the MMS cafeteria.
Project Gift Box - Also, there is a potential for some help at the holiday season if your family (or you know of a family) that is experiencing a hardship and could benefit from some help over the holidays, please fill out the google form for this help as well. Distribution will be Wednesday December 6th from 4:30-6:30 at the MMS OW Storage Room.
Project Tannenbaum - If there is a potential need for a Christmas tree, ornaments, or lights, please indicate in the google form. Distribution will be December 5th at MMS (basement) from 5-7pm.
The google form has all three projects listed on it. If you have multiple children in different buildings, you only need to fill out the google form one time with all of your family information on it. If you would like a hard copy of the form, please contact a school counselor. Please complete the google form no later than Friday November 10th. An electronic ticket will be emailed to you for each project you sign up for to show OW when you come to pick up your distributions.
Sincerely,

My whole class lessons for November will focus on emotional understanding and the concept of gratitude. We will talk about what we are grateful for in our lives and talk about different feelings.
Groups
I have started my small counseling groups for students. The topics for these first few months will include self-control, friendship skills, and being successful at school. Some groups will be offered during lunch and others will be offered during morning meeting time.

News from the Health Room - Mrs. Henson & Mrs. Klienfelter
Is my child too sick for school?
- Fever
Students should stay home for a fever of 100.4 degrees or greater. The student can return to school after he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication such as Tylenol or Motrin. Therefore, if a student is sent home from school with a fever, they may not return the next day.
- Vomiting/Diarrhea
A child with vomiting/diarrhea should stay home and return to school only after being symptom free for 24 hours.
Temperatures are changing, please be mindful and send your student with a jacket or coat.
