Year 3 - The Week Ending September 8, 2023
National Day of Service and Remembrance: MONDAY 9/11/23
Please wear RED, WHITE, or BLUE on Monday in observance of Patriots Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance.
“On September 11, 2001, ordinary Americans performed extraordinary acts of heroism. Firefighters and police officers rushed into crumbling buildings and raging fires to save others. EMTs, construction workers, colleagues, and strangers tended to the wounded. Passengers and crew members gave their lives to thwart another attack. And a generation of women and men answered the call of duty by joining our Armed Forces to defend our freedom and our democracy.
“These patriots—people of undaunted courage, uncommon resolve, and unwavering perseverance—are forever ingrained in our national character. They are reminders that we are a great country because we are a good people. On this Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, we pay tribute to the heroes and victims who lost their lives on September 11, and we recommit ourselves to the spirit of unity, patriotism, and service that carried our Nation through in the days that followed.”

INVITATION TO BE IN HOMECOMING PARADE - 9/21
Join our homecoming float on Thursday, September 21. The theme this year is "CHILDREN'S MOVIES". Students that want to be in the parade with us will need to be dropped off at Holy Angels Parking Lot at 5:30 pm. Please make sure that they use the restroom prior to being dropped off. Students may dress in school appropriate costume as their favorite children's movie character or in Gray Hawk spirit wear.
Please send a bag of candy with your child that evening to throw out along the parade route.
Parents will pick up their child in the BLHS parking lot after the parade. We will release students off the float to parents or guardians only. Students may go with another adult but we must have a note ahead of time detailing who they have permission to go with.
BLAS Food for Kids Backpack Program
Basehor-Linwood Assistance Services (BLAS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing a variety of emergency services for residents of the Basehor-Linwood school district. These services may include utility payments, food, school supplies, and holiday assistance. All requests are confidential. Those needing assistance may call the BLAS at (913) 406-9856 and leave a message. The BLAS coordinator will return your call.
The BLAS Food for Kids Backpack Program is available once again this year. The Backpack program provides a weekly bag filled with food for elementary aged school children that are in need. BLAS delivers the bags each week to GRAY HAWK and then OUR counselor Miss Hubbard distributes the bags on Friday. This program is fully-funded through community donations and the number of participants is limited based on the donations received. There is no cost to participate in the program.
If your child is in need of this service, please reach out to Miss Hubbard at mhubbard@usd458.org.
Attendance Matters
Congratulations to 4th grade and OUR GHES staff for remaining above our goal for the week. Looking cumulatively, congratulations are in order for Kindergarten, 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and our staff. Keep it up!
Please remember that if your child will be out of school you need to call to let Ms. Amy know. This protocol helps us account for our students. Thank you!
Thank you for making attendance a priority for OUR GRAY HAWKS!
GOAL: "OUR attendance rate will meet or exceed 96% for the 23/24 school year."

Request for NEW FAMILY PICTURES
OUR FAMILIES are why we are here and we want to celebrate you. If you are not new to GRAY HAWK but you never turned in a picture, please do so.

Help Raise Funds by Volunteering at HS Concessions
Working the concession at BLHS is so much fun!!! You take orders, make popcorn/hotdogs/nachos and keep things stocked. Very easy and simple but we can't do it without volunteers!
We will meet at the outside football concession stand at the high school.
Please call or text Abby Miller-Frecks at 913-238-5829 with any questions.
Right now we are looking for volunteers on Monday, September 18 and Monday, October 23. Thank you for your consideration.
