TRAFFIC ALERT! Drop Off and Pick Up ONLY along Kenneth
First, the curb along Kenneth (south of the crosswalk to the telephone pole), bordering the upper steps and Kindergarten playground, is for DROP OFF and PICK UP only! If you're a TK/K parent, please do not park in this area before school starts. It's still being used as a drop off area.
Next, it’s helpful to leave early enough, so your students can be dropped off between 8:30 and 8:40 a.m. When you enter the drop-off loop (especially the cone area), please ensure your students are ready to exit the vehicle. We have a large number of cars needing to get through in a timely fashion. If your child isn’t ready to get out of the car, this backs up traffic.
Lastly, its unsafe (and against the law) to double and triple park anywhere, especially along Kenneth Avenue. Law enforcement frequently tickets cars and will be out watching for violators.
The bottom line is that we want everyone to follow proper driving and parking rules, because it directly impacts student safety. Thank you for helping us move traffic along during drop-off and pick-up.
HELP STOP the Spread of COVID-19! WEAR A MASK.................... At School AND In the Community!
LeGette COVID Update!
We wanted to update you on where we're at with COVID cases. As many of you are aware, we had a two-week period with a number of students testing positive for COVID-19. Based on contact tracing and parent information, we believe ALL these exposures and subsequent positive tests were a result of unmasked adults coming into contact with unmasked students outside the school environment.
When students come to school and later test positive for COVID-19, they are immediately sent home and we conduct contact tracing in two areas: masked exposures (inside class) and unmasked exposures (lunch). When this takes place, the masked exposures are allowed to stay in school under a modified quarantine. Students are required to be tested up to four times in order to stay in school. The unmasked exposures in close proximity to the student who tested positive are sent home for 10-days. If they are asymptomatic and test negative on day 5, they can return to school on day 8. Families with more than one student, and still only one who tests positive, makes the situation more precarious. So, in those cases, the quarantine period may differ.
Here's what we have learned and know about our past cases:
- An adult may be immunized, but can still carry and transmit the COVID-19 Delta variant to another person (especially non-immunized children under 12), without even knowing it.
- When masks are worn, transmissions are negligible.
- LeGette student exposures have occurred off-site and it's been adult to child transmission.
- The majority of classrooms that have been impacted by positive cases is mainly the result of two large family incidences. [One, where the student was known to have been exposed to a positive adult, but was still sent to school for four days. The other, where the parents told their children not to wear masks even when at school- coming and going].
Though the county and district (who follows county guidelines) do not require masks outside, here at LeGette, we beg you to wear your mask when on school grounds. Our arrival and dismissal areas are congested, so contact with someone who may be COVID positive and may not even know it, can transmit the virus easily. It only takes a cough!
If you forget your mask, there will be new ones for you at a table just outside the main MP room door by the flagpole.
Our bottom line as a staff and community, WE WANT OUR STUDENTS IN SCHOOL! If you encourage your student to wear a mask outside of school, you'll greatly improve our ability to keep ALL our students healthy and in school.
THANK YOU!!

The Book Fair is Coming! September 20 to 24! Open 8am - 4pm!
Yay!!!!! We are going wild for the return of the Earl LeGette Book Fair this Fall! Let's encourage our students to be wild about books and reading through this great community event.
With District Safety Protocols in place during COVID, this book fair is an outdoor only event. That means we need our fabulous community to come together and help set-up and take down the book fair each day. With your help, we can continue with this tradition to bring joy to our children and have some fun again.
PLEASE sign up to volunteer through the following link on Sign Up Genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080B4AA8AE2CA5F58-earl1
Any amount of help is appreciated. Please note that all volunteers must wear a mask. Volunteers also must show proof of vaccination in the school office prior to volunteering. Thank you for your understanding and adhering to these requests. With them, we can have a book fair for our children.
Come join us for a wild time at the book fair for there is a jungle of books to read!
Principal's Message
I’d like to start off by thanking the Hymas family! They are taking time out of their weekends to sand and repaint the green benches that are around campus. They are (were) in rough shape. We can't thank you enough for helping our school look great!
Thank you for reading every Blue News as soon as possible when they come out, because they contain a lot of information vital to the success of our school and the safety of our students. I can't stress enough the importance of everyone wearing masks while on school property. I also encourage you to have your students wear masks, when appropriate, outside of school. This will lessen their exposure to others who may be COVID positive or simply carrying the Delta Variant.
Be sure to join others at JimBoy's Tacos this coming Wednesday from 5 pm to 8pm. What a great way to get some delicious Mexican food, while at the same time raising money for our PTO. All money raised goes back to the classrooms. See you Wednesday night!
We had a record number of parents present at our first PTO meeting. I hope you'll join us again on Zoom and invite another parent to our meeting on September 21 at 6:30 p.m. All your input and help is greatly appreciated!
Lastly, if you have academic questions or needs for your student, please contact your child's teacher sooner rather than later. We want to ensure that frustrations and issues to linger to a boiling point. We're all here to support your children (our students).
As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me at school. Thank, you!
