Superintendent's Message
Marc J. Smith - Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Schools
Thankful
Hello Dolphin Community,
As we head into the Thanksgiving break (friendly reminder no school 11/22-11/24), I find myself reflecting on my start here as superintendent. I am incredibly thankful for this amazing opportunity and how welcomed I have felt during my short time here as a Dolphin. I have met so many great people during my start, each who has their own unique connection, interest, and personal investment in the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District. I have seen so many fantastic examples of community investment in this district from fan support at athletic events, the marching band Encore performance, and this week's performance of "Murder on the Orient Express" to the overwhelming turn out at open house events, parent conferences, and other school-based programming. Additionally, I have been so thoroughly impressed with all the different community groups that I have met that are either already involved with supporting the school district's mission or are eager to do so.
As a way to continue to learn about Dennis-Yarmouth and expand my understanding of the district from multiple perspectives, I am planning to run a set of focus groups with families. I am planning to run the first one on December 13th from 6 - 7:30 pm. This will occur over Zoom and translation services will be available for anyone who needs it. Please be on the look out for an invitation next week through Remind to RSVP if you would like to attend. The RSVP is so that we can plan accordingly. This will be a great way for me to hear from families about the strengths of D-Y as well as the areas that we can improve. I have been running similar groups with staff and leaders and have been very thankful for the information I have received. As the year progresses, I will be interested in meeting with some of the active student groups at DYHS and hearing from them as well.
Whether the upcoming holiday is one that your family celebrates or not, I wish you and yours a time of rest and recovery. May the next few days offer you some extra time with family and friends and some time to focus on the things in life that make you grateful. I know that I am grateful to be a member of the Dolphin Community and look forward to our future together.
Thank you and have a wonderful rest of your week.
All the best,
Marc J. Smith, Ed. D.
