Dear Jackson Parents/Guardians,

This has been the best week of the 2020-2021 school year, thus far!

Thank you to those of you who have sent your child(ren) back for in-person learning. I know that wasn't an easy decision, but we are very happy to see students back in the building (even if we only get to see half of their face).

Those of you who have continued to keep your child(ren) at home, online, we truly appreciate the ongoing support you are giving to your students. We know it isn't easy and you are doing a great job! Please continue to reach out to your child(ren)'s teacher for support. We are in this together for sure!

Procedures and Protocols

Students are doing a great job of keeping their masks on during school and are given many mask-breaks throughout the day. Please remember that we only have enough masks to give to students if they have broken theirs or something happens to them. Families must provide masks for their own children.

School Hours and Attendance:

8:00am-2:30pm

Students who arrive after 8:00am will be marked tardy. Even a few minutes of being late each day add up to a lot over time. Please make sure that students are in their classroom or signed on by 8:00am.

Remember to call the Attendance Line if your child is unable to attend school, whether in person or online (719) 328-5813. Illness, bereavement (death in the family), or emergency situations are considered excused absences.

By state law, students are given 11 absences a year (and only 4 in a month). Please make sure to communicate with the school office (not your child's teacher) if your child(ren) will be absent.

COS I LOVE YOU! October 3rd 9:00am-12:00pm:

The annual "COS I LOVE YOU" community clean-up day will happen this year as planned. Please join us and Springs Journey Church for a morning of cleaning up Jackson's outside perimeter and Jackson park! It is a day you won't want to miss!

Birthday Treats & Lunch

Many of you have asked if you are allowed to bring in birthday treats for your child's class. Unfortunately, at this time, no outside food/treats that is to be shared by classmates, may be brought in. We will let you know when/if that rule is changed.

All students are provided a free breakfast and lunch each day! Or you may choose to have your child bring in their own lunch. Either way, children are provided ample time to eat lunch and play at recess everyday.

Thank you for your continued support and patience throughout this school year. There are many unknowns and we know you are eager for answers. Please know we are getting them to you as soon as possible. Call the office at (719) 328-5800, your classroom teacher, or me (719) 328-5802, if you have any questions!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Thank you,

Sara Miller

Mrs. Ruiz's Counseling Corner

Dear Jackson Parents/Guardians,

As COVID continues to require us to wear masks and maintain social distance from family and friends, many of us are having strong emotions of grief and loss. We all have been mostly isolated at home for 6 months now, and may have missed out on many special events, many have lost jobs, and school has been challenging. The following resource talks about how grief in these circumstances is normal and addresses how we can deal with it. Please do not hesitate to contact me if your children continue to struggle. Q Parent Connection (app)

Please take a few minutes to verify or update the information we have on file for each of your student(s) through the Q Parent Portal. You can do the update either:

Information to verify/update:

  • phone numbers
  • email addresses
  • military status
  • health concerns
  • emergency contact information

If you do not know your PIN and password, click the “Need Your Login Information” link on the sign in page, enter your email address, and you will receive an email containing your PIN and password. Once logged in

  1. Click on Information Update
  2. Review each section
  3. Submit

Once you have completed the update process, you should receive a verification email for each student. If your school has a registration event, you can show them this email as proof you have updated your information, saving you the time of filling out paper update forms.

If you need assistance, there is a help video on the left side of the ParentConnection home page. If you need additional assistance, please call Sue Lesar, Jackson's Staff Assistant at 719-328-5811.

Box Tops for Education

My name is Deb Tuxhorn and I am the Box Tops for Education Coordinator for Jackson Elementary. Box Tops for Education is a school fund-earning program that helps schools earn cash to buy things they need.

There are 2 ways to do this:

1) As you shop in your grocery stores, look for the logo on the boxes. They do not need to be clipped. Simply scan your receipt once you download the APP to your phone. Register Jackson Elementary to receive the points. We will earn 10 cents per item. You can also see the list of products and specials they are running.

2) Send in any clipped out Box Tops you may have saved over the summer with your student to their classroom. I will collect these from each classroom.

Thanks for supporting Jackson Elementary. Every Box Top helps!
