STOP - Older Information Below

NEW - Student Electronic Devices - Expectations and Procedures WBHS 2021-2022

West Brunswick High School has written an outline of students' cell phone expectations and procedures during the instructional day. These expectations and procedures are consistent with Brunswick County School Board Policy 4311.

The why: Safety and a focus on instruction

Students may not use their personal cell phones/electronic devices during the instructional day unless given permission by WBHS faculty. These devices must be off and OUT of SIGHT during the instructional day. Earbuds/headphones are not allowed during the school day unless a teacher assignment allows for them to be used.

WBHS expectation for student use of cell phones during the instructional day:

  • The use of a student cell phone/personal electronic device is prohibited during school hours (7:35-2:40) except inside the cafeteria during the assigned lunch period.

  • Staff and administration are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged cell phones/personal electronic devices.

  • Staff and administration will not disrupt instruction to conduct searches for lost or stolen cell phones/personal electronic devices.

Consequences for misuse of cell phones during the instructional day:

  • First Offense - Teacher/Staff will provide a verbal warning and conference with the student.

  • Second Offense - The teacher will make a parent contact about the misuse of the cell phone. Teacher/Staff may confiscate the phone and turn it into the office. The student may be able to pick up the confiscated phone after school. Failure to follow instructions will be seen as insubordination and may result in more disciplinary action.

  • Third Offense - Administration will confiscate the phone and turn it into the office. A parent/guardian must pick up the confiscated phone in the front office. The teacher will submit an administrative referral. Failure to follow instructions will be seen as insubordination and may result in more disciplinary action.
