Introduction

The Daintree Rainforest is the most beautiful rainforest in Australia. It is also the largest and the most ancient tropical rainforest in Australia. The Daintree Rainforest covers 0.2% of Australia. It is the most precious ecosystem. The rainforest has been around for 20,000 years. It has a massive amount of flora and fauna. Sometimes they call the rainforest the "Wet Tropics". The climate is abundant with rain. The average temperature in the Daintree Rainforest is 28 degrees celcius. The air changes bettween 24-30 degrees. The Daintree Rainforest is the most complex ecosystem on Earth. Millions of years ago the weather was warm and humid. Also there was alot of rain. Long ago in the Ice Ages when the climate was colder and drier,Australian rainforests survived in small moist pockets.The rainforest is protected under the World Heritage Listing. The Daintree Rainforesthas a waterfall,tall trees and vines. The Rainforest is a tall, dense jungle and have multi-layered canopy. The layers are the Emergent layer,canopy layer, the understory and the forest floor,which has alot of insects. It has plenty of resources.

Location

The Daintree Rainforest is located far North of Australia. The size of this tropical rainforest is 1,200 square kilometres and the equivelent size is Sydney. The Daintree Rainforest stretches from Townsville to Cooktown.

Flora in the Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree Rainforest has a large amount of flora. The Plants are the Wild Ginger,Blue Quandongs,King ferns, Tassel ferns,Tree ferns,Bull Kauri,Bunya pines,Lace bares,Wait-a-while vines,moss and Idot fruits. Idot fruits have large seeds and the seeds produce poison.There were four cows eating the Idot fruit's seed and unfortunately they became dead. Also in the Daintree Rainforest there is a plant called "Cannonball Mangrove". The Wait-a-while vines are a dangerous plant to go nearby.It is very dangerous because the plant can grab clothing or tear up anything that will come and approach. Moss is very moist. Moss prefers to have the poor quality soil with low nutrients. Moss needs shade andacid soil to flourish. They can grow on brickwalls,sidewalks and especially forest floors.


Fauna in the Daintree Rainforest

There are fauna in the Daintree Rainforest. Which include:ring-tailed possums,tree kangaroos,bats,cassowaries,butterflies,snakes,crocodiles,


Lizards,insects,birds,moths,earthworms,green python,land mullets,land leeches,turtles and saltwater crocodiles. There are 30% of frogs. Tree kangaroos eat leaves,fruits and other food sources. With the tree kangaroo's cushioned feet they can jump from tree to tree and stick on the tree.

Tourism

you can do so many different and fun things in the Daintree rainforest. The activities you can do here are watersports,half day tours,overnight tours,wildlife experience,birdwatching,fishing,hike trails,camping and cruise the mangrove to the Daintree river and on the way you can see crocodiles and turtles. The day tours take approximately one hour and a half. When the hike is finished it leads you to a waterfall


Threats & Dangers

The threats and dangers are mining,tourism and logging. Mining is a threat because flora and fauna will be lost. Tourism is a threat because over 400,000 people visit so that means cars and buses will drive through the rainforest. Logging is the major threat because trees will be cut down amd it would effect the plants and animals. Also the agriculture will get effected.
