Message from Tyler
Happy Holidays!
Families, I am excited for the coming weeks full of presentations, events, and holidays. I hope all of you are just as excited that the holiday season is upon us and we are getting ready to embrace a new year full of great memories. Here are a few updates and some important things to know:
Monthly Meetings: Please keep in mind that we have a short month and consultants have to meet with all families during the next three weeks. It is very important that you try your best to make your scheduled monthly meeting, since we have very limited opportunities to reschedule you.
Winter Break: The office is closed for Winter Break December 21st- January 1st.
Second Semester Registration: We are working on second semester schedules and hoping to have the catalog and schedule posted prior to Winter Break. Registration will occur after the break and will be opened to grade bands on particular days. It will start with K-1, 2-3, and then 4-6. Transition Link will follow the secondary schedule and the secondary schedule will open after elementary closes. Stay tuned for a special update as we will announce the registration dates later on.
Showcase: Showcase has been scheduled for January 28th. The showcase is a time for K-6 students to bring their families in to show off all the cool projects and activities that they worked so hard on during the semester. We look forward to a great show!
Important Dates: The last day of 1st semester workshops and classes will be January 22nd. The 1st day of 2nd semester for K-12 workshops will be on February 1st and for secondary classes will be January 26th. (Secondary classes WILL be held January 26th-29th.) The 25th is a NO SCHOOL day for semester break. The week of January 25th-29th will be dedicated to professional development, coach planning time to establish some more awesome learning opportunities, and re-configuring our classrooms to accommodate our new block schedule.
I am looking forward to seeing you all at our special events.
Wishing you all the best during this holiday season,
Tyler Reeser, Principal
Important Administrative Announcements
Delayed Openings & 2-Hr Delay Schedule
In the event of inclement weather, ice and/or snow, the school district may have a 2 hour delayed opening. It is the parent’s responsibility to find out whether school has been delayed.
Parents can listen to the radio (KONA AM/610) or parents, staff and students wishing to receive Richland School District weather closure/delay announcements via email, text message, or push notification can sign up by going to: http://flashalert.net/news.html?id=1845 (if you already have an active account, you do not need to sign up again, but you do need to log in to your account once a year to keep it active.
CLASS SCHEDULE DURING 2 HOUR DELAY
If there is a 2 hour delay, classes will start at 10am. TRHL does not condense class times for the remainder of the day.
Elementary classes that occur before 10am (8am -8:55, 9am-9:55am) are cancelled and the rest of the schedule remains the same, including lunch.
Secondary classes are slightly different. Secondary classes that are finished by 10am are cancelled. Classes that started before 10am, but are still in session at 10 am will be held, but will begin at 10am. For example, Studio Art usually goes from 8am – 11am, during a 2 hour delay the class will start at 10am and go to 11am. STEAM usually goes from 8am to 1:55pm, during a 2 hour delay the class will start at 10am and go to 1:55pm). The rest of the schedule remains the same, including lunch.
Attendance Procedures
If your student will be absent, please remember to call the attendance secretary at (509) 967- 6090 or email monika.brink@rsd.edu within 3 days of the absence to have your student excused. Excused absences are defined as absences due to illness or a health condition, approved pre-arranged activities, school-sponsored activities, or emergency situations. Also, if your student is running late, it is very important they check-in at the front desk and request a tardy pass from the attendance secretary. If the teacher has already taken attendance and has marked your student absent/unverified, the yellow tardy pass lets the teacher know the attendance secretary will change the student’s attendance in Wings to tardy.

Outdoor Science
Some of our Outdoor Science and Outdoor STEM workshops got started today building Bat Boxes! We will be taking them on our field trip to the Hanford Reach Interpretive center on December 17th. Will donate them to the center and they will install them in the area to benefit our local ecosystem.
Bat Box
Bats are very beneficial. They eat insects so reduce the use of pesticides and cut down on the pesky mosquito population. Over the last few years the bat population has dwindled. These habitats will encourage regrowth in our area.
If you have any questions about the project you can contact workshop coaches Larie Beck, Arlene Halman, or Ruby Ide.
Coats for Kids
Bring in your gently used coats! Let's get that blue barrel filled up before winter break!
Thank you everyone that has already donated!
