The Star

Ruby Bridges - where the STARS come to shine!

Hello from the principal's desk!

I am going to keep this one short. Please take the survey on Tools to Communicate with Parents here. We are trying really hard to reach all different groups of parents, using different communication tools. If you like them, (or even if you don't!) give us some feedback.

We have entered week 6. Our teachers are just hitting their stride. They are also feeling a bit winded, so send them a nice note! Is your student enjoying class? Tell their teacher, send them an email, say thanks!

With gratitude,

Jesse Woodward

Hello from STEAM Studio

Please join us for the STEAM Studio's Grand Opening Party on October 25, 1:30-3pm! I am excited for the Studio classes to begin soon. I'm putting the finishing touches on all the class displays and organizing our latest donated art supplies. In the LAB, Student Council Officer prospectives attended an informational meeting hosted by Ms Furuichi-Fong, proving yet another awesome use for this "clean room" space! Lastly, teachers have begun to do some really cool STEAM activities in their classrooms. Please get on twitter and follow these amazing RB teachers as they share the cool things students are doing at school! You can also follow my new Instagram, RB_STEAM, to see more photos from the Studio as well.

Hello from the Ruby Bridges PTA

The Fun-A-Thon is coming on October 14th. Please help complete the packets sent home to students for this fundraiser.

Kids will have a chance to win prizes including Amazon Kindles, scooters, and Target gift cards. Admission is free for Ruby Bridges students and $10 for non-Ruby Bridges students. Come out and have some fun with us!

The 3rd annual Fun-A-Thon will be held at Ruby Bridges Elementary on October 14th from 9-12.

We need your help to make the Fun-A-Thon run smoothly! Please sign up for a spot to help out on the day of the event. Sign up using this link:

A big Thank you to our Room Parents and to Carol Tseng for organizing such a great program!

Remember to join the PTA and have fun while helping your kids and your community. Our students need us!

Robotics Club

No one responded to this! I refuse to believe we don't have anyone available to help here... come on!

Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) will be sponsoring a Robotics club here at Ruby Bridges for our 4th and 5th graders starting in February 2018. We are going to need a coach! Although we are a ways off, I wanted to put the word out now. We will have meetings after school twice a week, and the occasional Saturday. Are you interested? FYI, there will be a small stipend as payment for our coach, and an island wide competition in the Spring. I am competitive, and want to win.

Perhaps you want to get started now? Let's talk!!!

5th grade Science camp

It is NOT too early to start thinking about the amazing opportunity that is the 5th grade Science camp, coming up March 28 - 30th. ALL 100 of our 5th graders are expected to go on this 3 day, 2 night excursion out into the woods of Santa Cruz for this incredible and immersive Science opportunity.

Alas, this trip is expensive! We are asking each 5th grade family to pay $280 for the trip. As you may know, this cost can be prohibitive for some of our families. We will offer scholarships as needed, and fundraising opportunities will be available to participate in if your family is unable to contribute financially

PTA is going to hold the money for us, so cut your checks now - payable to Ruby Bridges PTA, with Science camp and your child's name in the Memo line. It would be amazing if you also included a few extra dollars to help us with the scholarship costs. Let's make this once in a lifetime opportunity for these kids a reality, and ensure we do this for future classes.

Ruby Wrap

Do you know the video below, Cain's Arcade? PLEASE WATCH IT!!! We are coming up on the cardboard challenge, inspired by this video. It is this Saturday :(. Although Ruby won't be participating this year, maybe we will next year! Check it out -

Social Media presence

We are going to really work hard to share all the wonderful things going on this year through our PTA Facebook page, PTA Instagram, and school Twitter. Please try and participate along with us! It is super fun when we can all enjoy the MANY positive events that happen here, even if we weren't there in person to see them!
