How Do I Know if My Scholar Takes the State Assessments?
How do I know if I should sign my scholar up for testing?
All scholars in grades 3-8 & 11 will test in English and math.
Grades 5, 8, and 11 & 12th grade will test in science.*
Some scholars may complete tests in one day, two days, or three days.
*The CA Science Test is to be taken once by high school students. All 12th grade scholars that haven’t taken it will take it along with 11th grade scholars.
Please refer to the chart below for easy reference to determine if your scholar needs to test.
Compass needs your help!
Did you know public charter schools in California are mandated to test at least 95% of their scholars?
The Every Student Succeeds Act requires that all schools and student groups meet the 95 percent participation, and that the participation rate be factored into the Academic Indicator on the CA Dashboard. Failure to meet the participation rate reduces a school’s Academic Indicator. Participation rates are reported to our authorizing districts and are important for our continued charter renewals. Parent exemption does not remove the scholar from the percent participation calculation. If you love Compass Charter Schools for your scholar, please sign up for State Testing when we open registration.
These test scores benefit the scholar in a variety of ways:
Counselors use the scores to determine appropriate placement in high school math class
Comparison over time to guide Learning Lab instruction, improve scholar learning, and give insight into college readiness
Helps our school determine where to allocate resources for supporting scholar achievement
Achieving “Standard Met” on the ELA or Math test can qualify you for the Golden State Seal Diploma
- Provides the public with information about Scholar achievement at our school
Eleventh grade scholars who meet or exceed standards can be categorized as Ready or Conditionally Ready for college~ this may mean scholars can avoid the math and ELA placement exams upon entering California colleges
