Eagle Parent Monday Memo
#WeROne #ChooseGarlandISD
Week of 9/14/20 (Volume 5)
Our RHS website is updated weekly and has a great deal of information about procedures, protocols, and other information you may be looking for regarding the return to school and activities that are coming up. You are encouraged to use this as a resource when you have questions.
I wish the whole community could witness what we experienced in our building last week. We have an amazing group of students and student-leaders. They came into a brand new environment and began following protocols, showing respect, being grateful that they were back, and showing kindness to each other. I brag on our student body to everyone I meet, because of things like this. We really do have some AMAZING kids at RHS and I'm proud to be an Eagle.
I wanted to share with families what I challenged the students and staff body with over the intercom Wednesday of last week. I will remind them frequently:
"RHS is in this together. We will embrace the cultures of every student in this building, except the culture of exclusivity. As a campus, we can lead this generation to greatness, to boldness, and to creativity, but we can only do so if we go against the culture of division that has been in our society since COVID began.
As a campus, we will have:
- Character - doing what's right even when no one is watching
- Competence - being willing to work hard
- Compassion - never losing our love for others even when others are hateful or don’t agree with us
- Commitment - to the work before us
- Charisma - using our personality and strength to grow others. Choose to smile. Connect with those around you.
- Courage - to handle the heat
- Convictions - standing on what we know is right, keeping high standards. We have what we tolerate.
How committed are you? Leading in this culture is not for the weak or volatile. It’s for the courageous and stable. This campus is full of leaders , teacher leaders and student leaders. I challenge you to be who you were created to be!"
For all things Rowlett, please see our website or follow us on Twitter (@RHS_Eagles), Instagram (RHS_Eagles2), or Facebook.
As always, please contact your child's teacher, counselor, our office, your assistant principal or myself if you have any questions. Have a great week!
