CERTIFICATED STAFF OF THE MONTH--JANUARY
CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. SALAS----Mayra Salas, a new teacher this year, is off to a great start. She has fully connected with the San Vicente family and has fully embraced a culture of trust and good will. She runs a great classroom; her lessons are engaging and well-paced. She has high expectations of herself and of her students. Well deserved honor, Ms. Salas. You represent our school very well!
CLASSIFIED STAFF OF THE MONTH--JANUARY
Valentine's Day is a "Day of Love and Friendship"
That is the common translation of Valentine's Day into the Spanish language. Friendship is also the focus of the way Latino culture celebrates this holiday. As such, the day is highlighted by a focus on friendship more that anything else. That is what we celebrate and that is what stands out in our community, especially here in Soledad.
At San Vicente, a sense of friendship and cordiality are felt all around. The events around the the celebration of Valentine's Day merely highlights that part of our school culture. Staff are cordial to each other, typically greeting one another with gusto. Our teachers greet and embrace their students daily. It is not uncommon for teachers to (welcome and) dismiss their students with a high five or a fist pump.
Visitors to the school office will be greeted by friendly, smiling staff. Our entire classified staff demonstrate warmth, friendliness and an affectionate approach towards each other and the children. Our attendance clerk will greet students and families with a smile, even when they are late to school. Our family liaison connects with students and families, especially when they need it the most. Our counselor is both warm and supportive. Even our TOSA and school administrators model kindness, get along with the adults and love interacting with children in a friendly way.
I, therefore, principal of this wonderful elementary school, hereby proclaim that February 14th as much a national celebration of love as it is of friendliness and the spirit of our school. So be it!
~Mr. Calderon
