Does a person need empathy to create great art?

Yes, when you step outside of your point of view and view the situation in other people's perspective your art will inspire others and that is great art. Knowledge is needed also it helps you understand.

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feeling of another. Showing empathy involves seeing things from another person's perspective so that you can understand and relate to his or her feelings.

An author does need empathy to create great art. No one needs "great art" seriously they need quiet, and great skills of couse knowledge. You just dont pull great art depends on the art writing and painting have skills and knowledge to create originality of couse considering the artist has wisdom already backing him.
