Sweden is a large country in northern Europe.Sweden is also a land of beautiful lakes, snow-capped mountains, swift rivers, and rocky offshore islands.Sweden's way of life has often been called the "middle way," because it combines private enterprise with some government ownership of industry.Sweden is a constitutional monarchy with a king or queen, a prime minister and Cabinet, and a parliament.Under the 1975 constitution, the king lost his remaining powers. However, he remained head of state, a position that involved mainly formal and ceremonial duties. In 1980, a constitutional change made the royal couple's oldest child—male or female—heir to the throne


By area, it is the third-largest country in the European Union, at 450,295 square kilometers. Its capital city is Stockholm, which is also the country’s largest city.


Swedish is a Germanic language that closely resembles Danish and Norwegian. People from Sweden, Denmark, and Norway can usually understand one another.
