The French Gazette
Kindergarten - October 2015
Kindergarten students are off to a wonderful start in French this year! I meet with each class twice a week for 25 minutes. During that time we play games, sing, and work together using a blend of hands-on tools and technology to learn new vocabulary and practice speaking in the target language. This newsletter will be delivered to your inbox once a month with photos, sound clips, and vocabulary words to show you what we're learning in the French room.
For the past several weeks we have been learning how to introduce ourselves and how to ask and respond to simple conversation questions, such as "How are you?" and "What is your name?" We are also reviewing colors, numbers (1-20), and the days of the week. This month, as well as continuing to work on the themes mentioned above, we will be focusing on school supplies, classroom objects, common directions in French. Additionally, we will start to explore fruits and vegetables in French and practice describing them by size, shape, and color.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. I have so enjoyed getting to know your children these past several weeks, and I look forward to continuing to explore the French language and culture with them throughout the year!

French Specialist PK3 - 2nd Grade
The All Star class plays London Bridge in French. Students sing "Passe Passe Passera" while walking under the bridge. If they're caught when the bridge comes down, they must answer a vocabulary question in French!
One of our favorite games to play in French is "cache-cache," a guessing game where students take turns figuring out who is hiding a small object, such as "une pomme" (an apple), behind their back. Students must tell the guesser if they don't have the object in French by saying "Je n'ai pas ____."
Jake comes up for a turn at the SMART Board in a game where students must find school supplies that are hiding in different backpacks.

Below you will find a link to online flashcards where you can practice with your child at home. Paper copies of vocabulary terms will be sent home later in the month.
Throughout the year, kindergarten students will complete different vocabulary books to help them learn and practice the words we review each month. This month, our vocabulary book is about school supplies.
Reading Simple Sentences
Each page features a vocabulary term and a short sentence. In English, the sentence reads "The backpack is ______."
Fill in the Blank
Students then color the picture and fill in the blank with the color word to complete the sentence. Because the color comes after the noun in French, this project helps students learn adjective placement.
