Message from Principal Melamed
Dear Nederland Community,
I am pleased to announce that Gavan Goodrich (the principal at the Middle/High school) and I are resuming our regular town hall question and answer sessions. These town halls are a great opportunity to meet with us, get the latest school updates, and ask us questions. The first town hall of the school year will be Tuesday, October 3rd from 5:00 - 6:00 at the Middle/High school library. I encourage you to join us.
I am also looking forward to the PTA-sponsored Fall Festival on Friday, September 29th from 4:30 - 6:30 on the playground. This is a fun way to connect with families, enjoy food, and kick off the weekend. I hope to see you there!
Looking ahead, parent-teacher conferences are right around the corner and scheduled for October 10th, 12th, and 18th. We will have both virtual and in-person options available. Be on the lookout for sign-ups through Help at Schools.
Remember that there is no school for students on Monday, September 25th, or October 9th.
That’s it for this week. Take care, stay in touch, and have a wonderful weekend.

NES PTA NEWS
Have you joined the NES PTA for the 2023-2024 school year? A PTA membership is full of opportunities. PTA meetings, leadership roles, and volunteering are all optional. You can join to simply keep in the loop via email of the amazing things the PTA is doing for students, or you can participate more actively and help shape the future by exercising your voting rights, attending meetings, volunteering, sharing ideas, and helping them come to fruition, or taking on a leadership role! Both create a stronger community and empower families to have their voices heard on behalf of their kids.
We are hoping to welcome at least 40 new members this year and are excited about our first meeting on September 27. Membership is valid for an entire school year. If you were a member last year, please be sure to renew for this year!

BVSD Walk To School Day Shoe Collection
The Used Shoe Collection will take place the week of October 2 - 6, 2023. International Walk to School Day is October 4th, 2023.
The Used Shoe Collection, in partnership with the Eco-Cycle/City of Boulder Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials (CHaRM), is an opportunity for the BVSD community to re-purpose shoes during the week of International Walk to School Day. Donated shoes will be sorted by Eco-Cycle staff members and sent to Soles4Souls, another non-profit organization, which will redistribute the shoes to be used by members of less fortunate communities around the world. Since 2006, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 50 million pairs of shoes in 129 countries. Soles4Souls utilizes new and gently used shoes as a resource to help entrepreneurs in developing nations with an opportunity to start and sustain small businesses (4Opportunity) of their own. Learn more at soles4souls.org.
Guidelines of the Used Shoe Collection
Accepted: New or gently used shoes of all kinds.
Not Accepted: Dirty, ripped, or torn shoes.
- Pair and drop clean shoes in the marked boxes.
- Tie or band the pairs.
- Avoid putting the shoes in a plastic bag.
Unusable shoes are NOT being recycled and will go to the landfill. Please make sure all donated shoes are in useable condition and can be upcycled to others.
