Important Information for You!
Are you ready for Parent Teacher Conferences? Company is Coming!
It is time to make sure you are ready to go for Parent Teacher Conferences. Our goal is 100% participation. Please reach out to all parents that are not yet scheduled or that have not confirmed their conference time. It is important to organize yourself well for these meetings to make the most of this valuable face-to-face time. Again, you will not have report cards for these conferences. Have your notes for behavior, social, or emotional concerns concise and attached or stored with the achievement data. I always had a file for each student and kept them in alphabetical order in close proximity to where I met with parents. This allowed me to pull each file as the parents came in and helped me get through all the important topics in the very short amount of time we have for conferences. Finally, you will pass out the Title I Parent Compact, which will be placed in staff mailboxes. It is also important to make sure your classroom is ready for company! Stand at your classroom door this week and look around as if you had never walked into your room before then. Look for areas of clutter or disarray and work a little each day to tidy up. Let's be well prepared to have meaningful conversations with our parents and help them feel like the important teammates they are to us!
A couple of other reminders for successful parent-teacher conferences are: Start with a warm welcome and smile; Start with a positive, personal anecdote about child, let the parent know you KNOW their child; Stay on schedule; Dress professionally; and Enjoy the time spent with parents.
A Word on Word Study
In the link below is an article that was shared with me written by Nell Duke. Within the article Nell talks about some of the pitfalls that educators can fall into when teaching Word Study. It is a great article and one that I found myself reflecting on my own classroom practices and thought, 'wow, I might have fell into some of these'. I encourage you to take a read and reflect on your own practices and think about those areas that you may need to address. I think you may find that you are doing many things correctly, but might have an 'ah-ha' moment like I did.

PTO- Fundraiser Preliminary Total
Our PTO Board spent the better part of Friday counting fundraiser money. With a few orders left to tally, they had raised just over $16,000 in total sales. As a PTO will profit 40-50% based on which catalogs the items were purchased from. Thank you to all of you that promoted the fundraiser with your families!
A little parent-teacher conference humor brought to you by Gerry Brooks. I highly suggest that you use Patti the Helper Doll's suggestions and not Gerry's, but more importantly I hope it brings a little smile to your day.

What memory will your students walk away from this week of you?
Do ONE Thing and Make a Big Difference!
Continued through October, work to find out one new thing about your students. What do they do after school? What are they interested in? What's their favorite color? Think about how you might incorporate the things you learn or their interests into your daily teaching. Knowing your students and their interests will hold help you to build strong relationships with them.
