Highlighting Success at SHS

SHS Students Win Awards at the Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Contest

On Tuesday evening, three of our SHS students competed against 500 regional students in the 64th Annual Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair at John Carroll University. Once again, our students did very well.

9th Grader Alison Zhong won 3rd Place overall in Environmental Science (Grade 9-10) and a $50 special award from the Air & Waste Management Association.

9th Grader Bianca Banez won 1st Place overall in Biology (Grade 9-10) and 11th Grader Suraj Srinivasan won 1st Place overall in Biology (Grade 11-12). These FIrst Place Finishers received a $100 prize and ribbon.

Additionally, Suraj Srinivasan was one of 5 GRAND PRIZE WINNERS. He won a plaque and all-expense paid trip for him and a parent to travel to Los Angeles, CA on May 14-19, 2017 to participate in the International Science & Engineering Fair. The ISEF is the “olympics” of science fairs with 1,500 students participating from all 50 states and more than 70 countries. This is an incredible honor!

Great Weekend for Music Department

Over the weekend, two of our bands and two SHS choirs participated in their state contests. Both groups had highly successful weekends. Symphonic band received a rating of Excellent and Wind Ensemble received a rating of Superior. Both Cantorum and Women's Chorale received Superior ratings.

Congratulations to all of our performers and both directors for an outstanding weekend.
