WHITTIER ELEMENTARY CAREER DAY
On May 16th, 2019, we are hosting our annual Career Day for our 5th grade students and we need your help! We are looking for individuals who are passionate about their careers to come and share your life’s work with our wonderful students. Each year, our 5th graders get to explore a variety of career choices they might have never considered, broadening their interests and sparking their curiosity in career exploration. Each speaker will be given a sheet of talking points and will speak for five, 20 minute sessions. If you are able to participate in this great day, please reach out to our School Counselors, Carleigh Rich or Lisa Reese at 240-236-3135 for more details. Thank you!
CALLING ALL FIFTH GRADE PARENTS
MISS FISHEL AND MR. WAGAMAN IN THE NEWS!
Did you see a certain music teacher quoted in a front page article in the Frederick News Post on Wednesday? Miss Fishel has been working for a year and a half with FAME (Frederick Acoustic Music Enterprise) who donated well over 400 ukuleles--including 30 to Whittier--to a dozen elementary schools in Frederick County. Mr. Wagaman participated in the program on Tuesday night and both music teachers are excited to play ukuleles with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders soon! Read more about it here: https://www.fredericknewspost.com/news/education/learning_and_programs/striking-a-chord-music-to-fill-the-air-of-fcps/article_44af2417-191b-50b3-9717-8707378824a0.html

PTA
If you appreciate all the activities sponsored by the PTA and feel you might be up for the challenge of serving in a capacity while also being an active member at WHES, please consider taking a role on the PTA Executive Board for the 2019-2020 school year. Whittier has a strong and active PTA and the executive board plans many activities that enrich the lives of our children and teachers during the school year. If you are interested in running for a position, please contact Amanda Cecil. You will need to provide a brief bio about yourself and let us know the position you are running for. This has been an active year for the PTA but the incoming executive board sets the standard for each year with regards to pace and activities, so as a group you get to decide how many activities you take on. The current board will also help you transition into your roles with any assistance and guidance over the summer. The PTA general membership meeting on May 20th, 6:30pm at Whittier will be the evening where each PTA member will vote on the incoming board officers. Please come prepared to vote for the officers listed as well as catching up on brief updates from activities for the past school year. The PTA meeting is a great way to meet other parents just like you, engage with teachers, and to listen to all of the achievements of the school year. We highly recommend attending the PTA meeting just to see how much the PTA does during the school year.
