Winter Reading Challenge
Reading together with your child can help them become better readers, increase their concentration, help teach them about the world around them, improve their vocabulary and language skills, develop their imagination, and develop empathy. Not to mention, it's FUN and is a great time to spend with your child. Children who read are proven to do better in school! :) Use this time to go on letter hunts, try to point out sight words such as 'a', 'the', 'and', 'of', etc., and point out rhyming words. Talk about main characters, the plot of the story, the beginning, the end, the key parts of the actual book such as the front and back, top and bottom, and reading directionality such as reading from left to right and top to bottom. It's also a great time to talk about how to track using your finger and your eyes. Reading will help your child be an achiever later in life.
Scholastic Book Orders
Did you know that ordering online earns us bonus points that can be used to purchase goodies for our classroom AND earn free books? Because Scholastic is celebrating a birthday this year, January is an especially good time to order because they're giving away SO much free stuff to the classes. Orders of $10 dollars or more earn a LOT of bonus points and gets your child a free cute reading poster!
DECEMBER SCHOLASTIC ORDER:
The last order that was done in December is still en-route due to the holidays. I ordered them on the 10th or so, but they did not arrive before Christmas, and due to this, they attempted to deliver while we were on vacation. After two attempts, I tried to contact UPS and Scholastic to see if I could somehow intercept the order, but they couldn't arrange it. So, now, after calling them again, they are FINALLY on their way again! :) I will send them home as soon as they arrive! Thank you so much for your understanding in this matter!

Absences: If your child is going to be absent for a day or for an extended period of time, please call the attendance line to let them know. You may also choose to email your teacher, but for sure a call to the attendance line is necessary. If we have not heard from you within the first part of our day, the office will call to confirm your child's absence.
Attendance Line: 330-653-1300
An Informational Night for Parents:
SNOW! How should I dress my child? How do snow days work in preschool?
With snowy weather comes colder days. Please know that if we ever plan on going outside, I will be alerting parents ahead of time to dress their child appropriately for that day. We will be playing in the bike room aka the motor room or going to the gym or the sensory room on cold days. During this season, we typically do not go outside.
Snow days:
If there is a snow day in the district, you will receive a call from the district if you have signed up for alerts on the website (click here to sign up if you haven't) and they will display it on the district website, the district Twitter account (@hudsonohschools) and on major news stations on on their websites.
Delayed Start:
If there is a 2 hour delay or other delayed start, again you will be notified by a call and it will be posted on the website and major news stations and their websites. Because we are an AM & PM session preschool, on days that we have a delayed start, there will be NO AM SESSION.
As always, please email or call if you have any questions. Thank you!
