Message from the Principal
Holmquist Families,
As we are into the spring semester I would like to ask you to advise our students to exert greater efforts in taking charge of their academic progress.
Research shows that attendance is the single most important factor in school success. If your child has frequent absences they are more likely to score low on standardized tests. Being late for school also hurt's a child's learning. A student who is 10 minutes late everyday will miss 30 hours of instruction during the year. They cannot get back the important discussions, questioning, and explanations by the teacher and the thinking that makes learning come alive.
Your child's success in school depends on having a solid educational background, one that can only be obtained through regular school attendance.
Parents please help them to organize and stay focused. Encourage them to work hard and smart. It is important to monitor their progress and make it a habit of assessing their daily growth for the rest of the school year.
As always, please contact the school regarding any questions you may have.

Car Rider
All car riders must have a school issued car rider tag for the 2021 - 2022 school year.Parents must have the car rider tag. If you do not have a tag please go to the front office before 2:45 pm to receive a tag.
1st - 4th grade parents use the outer lane of car rider.
Pre-K/K Car Rider
Parents must be in the car rider line no later than 3:05 pm for dismissal. Please use the inner driveway. You must have a car rider tag. If you do not have a tag please go to the front office before 2:45 pm to receive a tag.
If you have a Pre-K/K student and an older student please use the outer lane. Only Pre- k and Kinder students can enter vehicles from the inside lane.
IMPORTANT
Only AISD school buses, Day Care Vans and staff members will be allowed in the side (faculty) parking lot during arrival and dismissal times. Parents wishing to come into the building will need to park in a designated parking spot. Do not park in fire lanes.
Please do not drop your child off on Westpark or in the fire zone area near the apartment complex. Both areas are very dangerous and are unsupervised. Please adhere to this policy for your child’s safety.
Walker Dismissal - PK, K, & 1
Parents picking up walker students in grades PK, K & 1 will be given a walker tag. The parent or guardian must bring the walker tag daily in order to pick up his/her child. If you do not have a tag, you must report to the front office with a government issued picture ID. Otherwise, the child will not be released to you or anyone not on the registration card or with proper identification. Parents will not be allowed to park in the school parking lot to pick up their child as a walker. All walkers must walk off campus.
Please read the information below regarding walkers when you are registering your child or when making a change to their dismissal transportation.
Walkers Right- are only for students who walk across the street to the Cape Colony Apartments. If they go beyond that point, they will need a different mode of transportation.
Walker Left-are students who only live in the apartments to the left of the school at the City Parc Apartments and across the street at the houses behind Miller Intermediate.
Walker Left Waiters-are students who will be picked up by a parent no matter if they are walker right or left. They must have the green walker strip completely filled out to receive their child. If someone else picks up the child, that person must go to the front office with their ID.
Important:
*Students can walk to their apartments by themselves if they are in 1st grade and up.
*Students can walk home with their siblings.
*Students are not allowed to wait at the light to wait for their parents due to safety concerns. They will need to be a car rider.
If you would like to change your child's dismissal transportation, you must first contact the front office. Then, the front office will inform their teacher.
Change of Transportation
Parents, if your child will be going home a different way in the afternoon, you must send a WRITTEN note explaining how you want the child to go home. We cannot accept changes over the phone or verbally from a child. A dated and signed note must be sent. Only in an emergency situation will we accept notes sent by fax. Some faxes may not reach the intended destination, so please call to notify the Front Office if a fax is being sent.
Mode of transportation changes will not be honored after 2:45 pm due to the difficulty of getting information to the teachers during dismissal process.
EARLY PICK-UP
Help us make dismissal time safer for all of our students. So that we can monitor all children more carefully, parents who pick up their child for doctor appointments, etc, MUST pick up before 2:45 pm. No child will be released to parents in the front office between 2:45 pm and 3:30 pm.
Students will only be released to persons listed on the enrollment card. All parents/guardians and emergency contacts must have a government issued picture ID when signing out students.
Attendance & Tardies
The state attendance law requires attendance for the ENTIRE day. Give your student the best start to the day and help them get to their class on time every day. Late arrivals (tardy) and early pick-ups count as a partial day absence.
Beginning Thursday, August 12th , your child must be in their classroom by 7:55 a.m. If your child arrives at 7:55 am., he or she is considered tardy and you must park your car and walk your child inside of the building to sign him/her in and for them to receive a tardy pass.
Students are considered late at 7:55 am onwards (or 11:46 am for Afternoon PK}
IMPORTANT CAFETERIA NEWS EATING WITH YOUR CHILD
Parents will not be able to eat lunch at school until further notice. We will let you know when parent lunches may resume. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through COVID.
Lunches from home…..
The front office staff is responsible for many important tasks during the school day, therefore we will not be able to accept lunches in the front office or deliver them to students. All lunches will need to be brought to school by your child and not by a parent or guardian during the school day.

V-SOFT SECURITY SYSTEM
As we continue to strive for the safest learning environment possible, our security procedures for the 2021-2022 school year will again include the continued use of the Raptor System.
Beginning Wednesday, August 11th all visitors must check in through the Raptor System and receive a Visitor Tag at the front door before going to any other areas of the building.
Classroom visits will be allowed AFTER 8:30 a.m., however teacher conferences will need to be scheduled during the teacher’s planning time. We appreciate your time and understanding when you visit our campus; you will be required to show an identification card. The process takes only a few seconds and is well worth the safety of all our children.
