Parent Volunteers Needed
- We are looking for donations of snack items for the front office... sometimes we get hungry... no, just kidding! It's for the kids when they forget to bring something for snack time... well, unless it's really good, and then we might sample it.
- If you plan to drive or chaperone for Winter Sports, please check in with the office to make sure you are all set with Safe Environment Training and insurance paperwork for the Diocese. This process can take a few weeks. It would be fantastic if we could have everyone ready to roll by early December.
- We need parents willing to help setup and serve food at the Super Raffle Spaghetti Dinner.
SMS Middle School Soccer Team had its first game of the season!
by Liz Chechile
This week our middle school soccer team played their first game. Tuesday they faced Hilltop Montessori. Although, our team did not win, they made tremendous strides learning to play as a team and function as a cohesive unit. They continue to improve and are energetic for the game.Unfortunately, our second scheduled game did not happen (we believe there was a miscommunication with the other team), but our kids enjoyed a great scrimmage!
Next up our team will play an away game at St Joseph's on Thursday, 10/17!
If you can't make the drive to Keene, we hope you will consider coming out to cheer on the kids for our home game on Monday 10/21, also against Saint Joseph's!
High School Soccer Highlights from this Week...
By Phil Leggiere
The Saint Michael Saints Soccer team traveled northward this week to Putney, Vermont for two contests, their sixth and seventh of the season.
On Wednesday, October 9th the Saints faced The Greenwood School in an exciting match that ended dramatically in a 3-3 tie.
The Saints trailed 3- 2 with the game clock running down when Steven Borst stole the ball from Greenwood, racing down the field and score a last minute goal to tie the game . The Saints two other goals were scored by Thomas Duchaney, assisted by a deftly forwarded pass from Steven Borst at left wing, and Ezra Christie, who chipped in his fourth goal of the season.
On defense Casey Christie had his finest effort of the year, keeping the game tight with several fabulous saves.
All was not so well the following day as the Saints, clearly exhausted from their efforts of the day before, were routed Thursday, October 10th by a powerhouse Putney School team 10- 0. A few standouts for the Saints in this disappointing outing were David Korpieski and Tara Castricone.
The Saints will be returning to the Greenwood School next week on Thursday at 3:30 for a rematch.
