Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence
We have had such lovely weather this week - I can't believe that we are still in the month of February!
Last Friday, I had the privilege of traveling to San Antonio to the TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) Convention where eight CHHS students participated in the All-State Band and Choir clinic and concert. Colleyville Heritage set a school and district record this year where seven students participated in the All-State Choirs, and Jordan Drake placed 3rd in the All-State Symphonic Band on the euphonium. I was truly amazed at the high level of talent from these CHHS band and choir students.
CHHS also set another school record this week with eight students recognized as National Merit Scholars. Out of the 1.5 million entrants, only about 15,000 Semifinalists were notified this month that they had advanced to Finalist standing. So, this is a great honor for those students to receive, and I am so proud of them.
As always, the excellence demonstrated from CHHS faculty and students never cease to amaze me. Have a great weekend!
What do you think motivates students at CHHS to be the best?
As my senior year comes to an end, I have realized that my peers and teachers are definitely the driving force behind my motivation to be the best. CHHS has an incredible community of students that push one another to better themselves each day. There is no better feeling than the competition between friends to do better on a test and the bonding that is created as they study and learn together. Without a strong student body, the need to succeed would not be so powerfully felt. I know that my motivation was never truly founded until my second semester of freshman year when my friends started comparing their ranks. The underlying need for success became engrained in my head and it has never lessened. Besides the students, the wonderful faculty allow us to receive the support we need to continue growing intellectually and personally. The relationships I have created with my teachers and counselor have definitely helped me push through the stress and adversity I have faced throughout school. Ultimately, the combination of amazing students and faculty at CHHS create the perfect balance between friendly competition and support that motivates us, the students, to be the best we can.
