Werner Science Fair-March 4
Dear Werner Community,
The Werner Elementary School Science and Engineering fair will be held on March 4th. All students are invited to participate. Students may work independently, with a partner, or in groups of three. We will have two divisions, K-3 and 4-5. All students who complete a project will get to share their results with friends and will receive a participatory ribbon, a scoring sheet with comments, and accolades from their teachers. This is a great opportunity for students to make a scientific discovery or develop their building and engineering skills. It’s also a fun and memorable experience for kids!
There are many incentives to participate. Everyone who completes a project will receive a participatory ribbon and will have the opportunity to share their project with their peers. First place winners’ names from each division will also be engraved on our Science Fair plaques beside the Werner trophy case! Plus, the top two projects from the grades 4-5 division may have the opportunity to advance and represent our school at the Poudre School District Fair at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery.
So how do you get started? Completing a project is not as hard as it sounds. You’ll need to get a tri-fold project display board. Projects following the scientific method should contain a question, hypothesis (prediction), procedure (the steps taken to carry out the experiment), results (observations, data, etc.), and conclusions (discussion/reflection on what was learned). Engineering projects should include a problem, background research (optional), and preliminary designs and sketches. Then, your child should build a prototype (this can be a smaller model of their invention) and test it out to see if it works. Display the prototype (or pictures of it) along with a results and conclusions section on your project board. Detailed information for those who are interested will be posted on the Werner website including examples, ideas, and the scoring rubrics.
The bottom line is that we want as many students as possible to participate and to share their ideas and inventions. We are not as strict as the district fair will be about projects containing all the criteria, so please don’t feel intimidated by the requirements. All projects are welcome to be put on display.

PSD hosting in-person hiring event Feb. 21 to fill over 100 vacancies - register today!
Poudre School District will host an in-person hiring event from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, Feb. 21, at Fort Collins High School, 3400 Lambkin Way in Fort Collins.
PSD is experiencing significant staffing shortages. Due to daily staffing shortages and/or high absenteeism rates of staff and students out for illness symptoms or COVID, PSD is prepared for possible shifts to remote learning for classes, programs, grade levels or even schools. That said, PSD is doing everything possible to avoid this.
Like other districts across the nation, PSD is struggling to recruit and retain staff. PSD needs your help to ensure all students are served breakfast and lunch and all students who benefit from busing receive it.
Job seekers are invited to learn about open positions in the district including but not limited to bus drivers, Child Nutrition team members, custodians, and others.
During the event, PSD will do on-site interviews. Applicants may want to bring their resume with them. Participants will be able to complete an application in-person. Application assistance will be available for those who'd like it.
Those attending will be able to speak with current team members and learn more about the positions. Applicants can also test drive a bus and tour the kitchen at Fort Collins High School.
PSD offers opportunities for advancement and all training is paid. Professional development is also offered for employees to grow in their career. PSD offers competitive pay and benefits.
* Please note: This event is scheduled to be in-person; however, it could change to a virtual event given COVID regulations. The event is open to the public, masks will be required, and provided if needed.
