Adult and Community Education
"In The Know" 09/27/16
A Message from the Leadership Team
Adult Education
This week begins National Adult Educations and Family Literacy Week. National Adult Education and Family Literacy week is an opportunity for us all to promote the adult education programs that we offer throughout our school district. See all the events planned below in "Reminders".
This week is also when we may begin to register new students for the 2nd session of Fall term which begins October 17, 2016. We are NOT registering in massive numbers---only enough students to “replenish” or fill a classroom that already has a teacher. Remember we all have to work in concert to assure that our attendance levels (student retention rates) are high. Site coordinators need to work with the fiscal assistants and check attendance history daily, phone students missing class regularly and coordinators need to have conversations with those students. Teachers continue to plan engaging activities that start on time and continue up until the scheduled time is over.
As we visit classrooms across the district we are EXCITED and ENERGIZED to see the outstanding instruction that is taking place. If you have success stories to share: a successful lesson, a student success, or a perfect attendance day, please send us an email with a brief explanation (pictures are also encouraged!) --we want to recognize those achievements. Thank you for all you do.
Remember to arrive at least 15 minutes early to get your attendance sheets and to greet your students as they arrive to class. Someone will come around and pick up your attendance sheets once class has started. We look forward to another prosperous year for Community Education.
An email is forthcoming to ask you for your teaching schedule for Winter 1 and 2. We will be combining the class schedule books. Be sure to adhere to the deadlines.
Winter 1 and Winter 2 Catalogs will be combined, therefore Laraine will be sending an email this week to ask for your schedule for both sessions. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

Wellness Corner
Thank you to Khris Betten-Jutasi for sharing the paragraph below written by her ELCATE student Fredenel.
It is very important for everyone to create to a good habit of regular exercise. Based on the positive impact that working out could have in people’s health, all human bodies need exercise. There are several types of exercises people can do, such as spin class, yoga class, walking, going to gym and riding a bicycle. None of these are better than others. The best thing people have to do is choose what exercises they enjoy doing, so that they can stay with it. A great healthy habit is, to start practicing physical activity at a young age. As Mr. Schnappauf shared, "Start a healthy habit at a young age".
