Our Veteran's Day assembly will be held the morning of November 9th in the gym. The Color Guard will present the colors and flag, and Security Forces Squadron Commander Major Michael Twining will be our speaker. He will be presenting on why we respect the American flag, what our flag represents, and the purpose of our Pledge of Allegiance. He will also be sharing with us how and why we fold the American flag.
Classroom Corner
Mrs. Draper (Preschool): In PreK we are doing very well at following school and classroom routines and procedures - our # 5 line is one of the best! We are well on our way into our learning with some awesome decorating of alphabet blocks along with number identifying and counting of bananas. We are also enjoying discussing the season of Fall as we watch the leaves of the trees change colors and fall softly to the ground.
Ms. Davis (Kindergarten/First): K/1 has started our PBL asking the driving question "what makes a river a river?" Our entree event at the snake river was a great way for students to begin generating questions for this unit. We drew water samples from the river in order to collect data on the temperature as well as make observations about what was in the water. We have also been learning and writing about the different parts of a river. Kindergarten has been learning about 2D and 3D shapes in math and working on blending letters together to make CVC words. They have been doing a great job developing these early reading skills.
Mrs. Meyers (Second Core): The second graders are working hard on learning different strategies to add and subtract within 100. We have learned the arrow way and to add like units. We are going to be moving on to learning the algorithm for adding and subtracting soon. Then learn how to solve one-two step word problems. In reading we are wrapping up our unit of learning what it takes for different animals and creatures to survive. We will be moving on to learning about where water comes from.

At Home
During our Community Groups, we have been watching ClassDojo's Big Idea videos about perseverance. In our school, we also call persevering "grit." Perseverance or grit is defined as continuing to work towards an action, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. ClassDojo has defined The Dip as when you feel stuck on something- whether it is in school or at home. Being in The Dip is hard, but we have been talking about ways you can get out of The Dip.
To get out of The Dip, it is not enough to keep trying the same thing over and over; you have to try something new! And even though it doesn't always work, failure should be seen as an opportunity to learn something new and try something different!
You can watch the growth mindset videos from ClassDojo with this link: www.classdojo.com/BigIdeas.
Some questions you can ask your child at home:
1. What was a time you were afraid to ask for help? Why were you afraid?
3. How can you improve the phrase, "I can't do this?"
3. What was a time you just didn't get it. What could you do in that situation?
