Weekly Update for February 14 - February 18, 2022
Good Evening Brightwood Family, this is Principal Stokes! Welcome to another great week of learning. Please remember that our doors open at 7:00 am and our instruction ends at 2:10 pm. If you pick your child up early it must be before 1:45pm with ID, for emergency and appointments only.
Tomorrow we want to spread love, kindness and joy to all and wear colors that express love on Valentine’s Day. If plan to send snacks for your child class, please make sure it is individually wrapped and enough for all students in the class. They will eat the snacks during the lunch time. Please remember that students cannot take flowers and balloons on the bus so please do not send those items to school.
Please remember that everyone is always expected to wear a mask when on GCS property this includes the bus. This is so that everyone is properly protected. Please make sure that you are properly supplying your child with a mask daily.
As of last week, all students were given One Cards with the exceptions of those that just enrolled. Please make sure that you child has his/her lanyard. Please listen carefully all students are expected to bring and wear their One Card daily. All bus riders need their One Cards to get on and off the bus. All students need their cards to sign in and out of school. This is how we identify students as being a Brightwood students it is for their protection. We as a school staff are required to wear our ID cards as we expect students to do the same.
We have several students that will be taking the NAEP assessment on Wednesday February 16th, 2022. Those that are taking the assessment have already received the letter and needed communication. Progress Reports are coming on Thursday February 17, 2022.
GCS has activated their new call center for all transportation requests and needs. The Number is 1-888-511 4427 and if you need our school assistance, please do not hesitate to call us so that we can assist. We know the bus situation is frustrating but as you have seen on the news this is a nationwide issue.
Lastly, if you or your child is experiencing cold or flu symptoms they should stay home. You should then contact the school, your child’s teacher and your healthcare provider for guidance. Symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
Please remember that if you or your child are awaiting COVID 19 test results you are to quarantine until you receive your results. If your child comes to school with cold or flu-like symptoms, we will follow GCS outlined policy for proper student return. If you or your child test positive for COVID 19 or are in contact with someone that tested positive for COVID 19 you must contact me immediately. This helps us stop the spread of the illness and stop others from getting sick.
We greatly appreciate your support as we continuously work to provide an excellent education every day to each of our Brightwood Tiger this school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school or send us a message on ClassDojo.
Thank you for all that you do and have a great evening. Remember as always you are amazing!
Love Your Proud Principal
Ms. LaTrice Stokes

Kindergarten Royal Tea Party
We have been studying about Kings and Kings and their Royal Families. We would like to culminate this activity by having a Royal Tea Party with our students. If you are willing and able could you allow your child to come to school dressed as a Prince or Princess. We would not go outside on this day and have indoor recess so that their Royal clothes would not get ruined.
Thank you
Kindergarten Team
