Dear Davis Families,
I hope you all had a restful, long Labor Day weekend. With a little more than three weeks of school already complete, I am confident that our Davis teachers and staff will continue to bring high levels of student engagement, relationships, academics and rigor to our Davis Community. We are Davis Raiders and Raiders Are Individuals Displaying Excellence, Respect, and Safety!
Parent Communications and Platforms:
If you haven't done so already, please join ParentSquare and Infinite Campus as the two main ways to receive communications about your child. Information on how to join, can be found under Parent Resources on the District website: www.ogsd.net . You can email or send messages to teachers using Parent Square. You can check your student's assignments and grades on Infinite Campus. Having access to your child's Google Classroom will also give you the opportunity to look at classroom assignments and expectations on the platform that they check into daily for assignments and meets.
Technology Needs and Questions:
We want to make sure that all students have a district-issued chromebook. If you haven't already checked one out, either last Spring or since the first day of school, please visit the Davis Office between 9-1:00 Monday-Friday. Also, if you have a district-issued chromebook that is having problems, please visit https://ogsd.itforstudents.com/ to submit a help desk ticket. Do not take it back to the school. Please submit the help desk ticket first.
Parent Distance Learning Tips:
- Establish routines and expectations
- Monitor communications from your children’s teachers
- Begin and end each day with a check-in
- Take an active role in helping your children process and own their learning
- Establish times for quiet and reflection
- Encourage physical activity and/or exercise
- Remain mindful of your child’s stress or worry
- Monitor how much time your child is spending online
- Keep your children social, but set rules around their social media interactions
School Lunches:
We are once again providing free meals for all youth 18 years or younger at nine school sites: Anderson, Baldwin, Christopher, Davis, Del Roble, Edenvale, Hayes, Parkview and Stipe - Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 12-1:30pm. Grab and go breakfast and lunch meals for no cost. Students do not need to be present and no ID is required. Please see the September Menu here.
We still want all families to apply for the meal program by September 30th. The meal program offers meals but also helps families qualify for other services. In the event that the new federal meal waivers end, the meal program would help families with reduced or free meals. Apply here.
Parent Support
In partnership with Governor Newsom, Parents Anonymous® Inc. recently launched the California Parent & Youth Helpline and Online Parents Anonymous® Support Groups in response to the Coronavirus to provide free trauma-informed, evidenced-based emotional support to Parents, Children and Youth in any language via calls, text, live chat and email. The California Parents & Youth Helpline operates 7 days a week from 8:00AM-8:00PM. Parents can Join a Weekly Online Support Group NOW through the website: caparentyouthhelpline.org. In this confidential setting, Parents address their underlying emotions and build resiliency to strengthen their family.
Also, if you are in need of some local counseling support for your child or family, please reach out to your student's counselor, Mrs. Alvarez (7th) and Ms. Carrasco (8th) and they can help with some of our school-based agency referrals. Both of our academic counselors are bilingual Spanish, too.
Parent Involvement:
Even though we are at a distance, I am still looking for parents/guardians who would like to participate in our parent clubs and organizations. If you are interested, please sign up here. Signing up does not commit you to attending, it is simply to show interest so that we can come up with some regular meeting dates and times. Currently, I am looking for at least 2 parents who would like to join our School Site Council, which is made up of parents and staff and goes over any school expenditures out of our school budget.
Drop-In Office Hours with the Principal:
Thank you to those that dropped by the informal "Coffee Chat" office hours that I held last Thursday. I also held a "Boba Break" session for students only on Friday. I will continue to meet with both groups weekly. Please see this slide for the clickable Google Meeting link and future dates/times.
Upcoming Dates:
Friday, September 11: Parent Coffee Chat w/Principal (10-10:30 AM)
Thursday, September 17: Parent Coffee Chat w/Principal (4-4:30 PM)
Friday, September 25: Parent Coffee Chat w/Principal (10-10:30 AM)
Friday, September 25: End of Term 1 Grading Period
Monday, September 28 through Friday, October 2: Fall Break/No School
Have a super September! Stay safe and be well!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ginelyn Kudsi, Principal
