The West Bloomfield Board of Education recently recognized Karen Reed from the district's transportation department during their Aug. 23 regular meeting.

Karen began working for the West Bloomfield School District back in 1997 as a school bus driver, eventually becoming one of the district's “new driver” trainers. Since assuming this role in the transportation department, every one of Karen’s students have passed the rigorous Commercial Drivers License test with flying colors.

Karen's work ethic and pride for our school district is evident as she works each summer caring for district grounds including the landscaping and flower beds around many of our school buildings. She is also a huge supporter of West Bloomfield Athletics and attends many events throughout the year, especially events involving the students on her bus.

Karen is well known throughout the district because of her positive attitude, willingness to help whenever needed, and her rapport with our students. She will often recognize her students' birthdays and special events by dressing in costumes on her bus route.

Lynne Robertson, WBSD Transportation Director, said, “Parents and students absolutely love Karen and we are truly lucky to have her in our district. She truly is a one-of-a-kind employee.”

Bus Tracker App Reminder

As a reminder, Durham Transportation, our district’s transportation partner, offers a helpful bus tracking app for West Bloomfield families. The Bus Tracker app is available for iOS, Android and web and allows families to track their student(s) bus along its route, to and from school.

Families will need to have their student(s) ID number(s) which are available in PowerSchool in order to log into the app and create an account. As a safety protocol, the Bus Tracker app will only allow families to see their student(s) bus route(s) only.

If you have any questions, please consult the Bus Tracker instructions and visit the Bus Tracker webpage on the Durham Transportation website for more information and to download the app.

We hope the use of the Durham Transportation Bus Tracker app will help better inform our families of slow downs and delays in the bus pick up and drop off times. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we navigate the first days of this new school year. We value the importance of consistency and safety in our transportation offering to families.

If you have any questions or would like more information, call our Transportation Offices at (248) 865-3680.

If your child qualified for the Free and Reduced Meal Program last year or this year, s/he can also participate in the Blessings in a Backpack program. This program sends six non-perishable meals home each Friday of the school year. Its goal is to make sure that no child goes hungry on the weekend. Run by volunteers, there is NO cost to you.

If your child is going to school Face to Face, s/he will get his/her bag of food at his/her local school. If your child is enrolled in Lakers on Line, please indicate that on the form and we will contact you on food pickup arrangements.

To enroll in this program, please fill out the form below and return it to your school office or email it to katherinesheiko@hotmail.com. The first section gives the West Bloomfield School District's Nutrition Department permission to release your name to Blessings in a Backpack, so that they can add your child/ren to their roster. The second section registers your child/ren in the Blessings program and alerts them to any allergies they might have. The first backpack of food will be distributed the first week of October.
