NCCVT MISSION
To provide superior Career and Technical Education enabling all students to achieve their aspirations.
CTE Prime
February marks Skills USA competition and a month fully dedicated to Career and Technical Education. Throughout the month, our students are competing and using the skills that they learn everyday.
The #NCCVTWORKS hashtag has definitely caught on, which is terrific for branding. No doubt posting on social media and constantly having a voice is a lot of work and requires organizing the activity within your day. Some, like Dan Boone at DTHS, have done an incredible job showcasing students, co-op, and our CTE community.
I ask that since February is CTE month, please include the following # with all your twitter posts. #CareerTechEd. Below is also the ACTE logo for 2020. You can find more about CTE month here.
Weekly Brief
1. Every day, every week we are improving in some facet. I can tell by conversations and various comments that we are making progress in various areas. Thank you. Remember, to LIFT others, ourselves, and the district it requires sophisticated hard work that is nuanced. I say all this because many in the greater community still do not understand or really know what we do within a CTE context. Let's continue to improve in every facet. We don't need grandiose plans or an elaborate strategic plan. We simply need to follow the advice of Steve Jobs and "make it better."
2. The Redding Consortium redistricting sub-committee has narrowed down possible redistricting options to three. I did not vote and made my stance public, since the options are simply descriptions with no impact evaluation done. Essentially, the three divide the city primarily between Red Clay Consolidated SD and Brandywine. No particulars were discussed.
Up Ahead: February
1. Unlike many of our months, February is not named after a Roman god. It's name is actually derived from a Roman festival dedicated to purification. In 2020 and within the walls of education, February is dedicated as a month that honors Black history. Let's continue to honor this month and the vision of Carter G. Woodson by observing the many accomplishments often unknown or forgotten by Black Americans. Interestingly, Delaware was one of the first states to embrace Negro History Week through the state Department of Education.
2. National School Counseling Week 2020 is Feb. 3–7. The week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), highlights the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and the tremendous impact they can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Please find a promotional toolkit here.
3. February is fun because we are entering the end of Winter Sports and tremendous competition. Please continue to be diligent at all of our events. The communication to date between the schools and district office has been clear, consistent, and timely. Thank you!
Take the Time to Climb: Principle C -- Communication
Going Beyond...
One of our principles of communication is to listen actively to fully understand the situation or person and exhibit empathy.
On a scale of 1 to 5, with one being poor and five being excellent, how well do you exercise this principle.
