This week, we will continue studying narrative mentor texts and begin brainstorming small moment ideas to use as inspiration for our narrative writing.
Reading:
The first unit in reading will cover realistic fiction. I will be reading Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt as my mentor text. Students will be expected to have their own reading book within that genre that they will be reading independently, conferring with me, and practicing reading strategies while they read. This week we are focusing on the topics of using precise language to describe characters and that some characters can be complicated to understand.
Indiana History:
This week, we have begun studying economics. We will be focusing on supply, demand, wants & needs, scarcity, profit, imports & exports, and how Indiana's transportation system impacts our economics.
Science:
This week, we will be planting seeds to study the moisture tolerance and salt tolerance of different plants. We also will be creating brine shrimp hatcheries to study the range of tolerance of the eggs in when put in water with varying salinity.
Math:
This week, we are taking our unit 1 tests and will begin unit 2. Lessons for this week will include arrays and finding the area of a rectangle.
STEPS to SIEW:
This year, student will be participating in a new curriculum called Second Step. At Stonegate, we will be referring to it as "Steps to Strong In Every Way." Every Friday, students will be participating in a lesson focused on social-emotional learning. This week, we will be focusing on taking others' perspectives.
