Principal Newsletter
From the Desk of Mrs. Riley
February 22, 2018
During the month of February, our students have been practicing the virtue of courage. Courage enables us to do what is right even when we are afraid of the consequences. During these forty days of Lent, the Church remembers Jesus's forty days of temptation in the wilderness. May we look to Christ as our source of courage to walk in His way.
Here are some of the happenings at school this week:
- Our National Junior Honor Society will begin a peer tutoring program. The NJHS students will be offering a free tutoring service to all students in any subject area needed. This service will be available during the lunch hour. Please look for more information and a form that can be submitted in next week's newsletter.
- Our Race for Education is set for Friday, May 11, 2018. Students will be walking around a designated area as many times as they can for one hour. Sponsors will be asked to make a tax deductible donation. The goal this year is set at $20,000. All funds raised will be used towards establishing an upgraded card access and intercom security system, an enhanced gym entrance, as well as upgrades to all school access points. Please be on the lookout for our Kickoff Letter which will go out in early April.
- Please consider joining us tomorrow at 8:45 for our monthly Community Homeroom. We will be announcing birthdays, Principal's Choice, Virtue of the Month, First in Math, Box Tops, Scholarships and other awards, as well as an introduction of the cast of our upcoming spring musical - Shrek Jr.!
Thank you for your constant support and prayers for our school. I encourage you to continue to support our work as we advance our mission to provide a transformative education steeped in academics and faith to our deserving students. There is no greater investment for forming our future saints than a Catholic education!
Please carefully review this week's newsletter for many reminders and updates. We thank you for entrusting your children to us and for the sacrifices you make each day to send your child(ren) to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School.
God's Peace,
Mrs. Barbara Riley
Principal

"Virtue of the Month"
The virtue for the month of February is courage. Courage is the ability to show bravery when facing difficulties. Courage enables you to do what is right even when you are afraid of the consequences. It is the ability to overcome our fear and stand up for what is right in the eyes of God. If you see someone displaying the virtue of courage, fill out a virtue slip for them. The winners will be announced at our next Community Homeroom.
