For the week of August 27, 2012

Our First Week

We have had a GREAT beginning to the 2012-2013 school year! We have taught our rules and procedures. We have learned each other's names and made new friends. We have several important dates coming up. Please read and take note.

Homework

How can you help your student?

I have two primary purposes for assigning homework. First, I want students to practice skills we have learned. Secondly, I want the students to learn to be responsible for independent work that involves time on task, independent practice, and time management; skills needed in middle school. I would ask that you make homework the student's responsibility. The parent's job is to provide a place to do the work, assign a time to do the work, provide supplies, check to see all work is done neatly and correctly, and to answer questions. Remember, students will not be given something to do for homework that we have not done in class.

Every few weeks students will be tested on their multiplication facts. Please encourage your child to review their facts at home until they become automatic. Each student will take the test until they correctly complete 50 facts in 2.5 minutes.
