Reading and Writing
This week we continued with our Book Club Unit in reading. We have been reading the book Home of the Brave together in class. Ask your student about the main character in our book and what is happening in our story. We are working hard on naming the THEME of a story and supporting our thoughts and ideas with details from our books.
Our Narrative Writing Unit is starting to take off and our students have the start of some really awesome stories. We have been working on getting to the heart of the story and showing (not telling) when they write. I am always telling the kids that great authors are like artists......they draw pictures in our minds using words instead of paint. I am super proud of how hard they are working on writing their stories.
We will start spelling next week. Look for a homework menu to come home. Words will be introduced in Week 1 and the test will be the following week.
We had lots of fun showing our school spirit. The Color Run sounds like such an awesome event. I am looking forward to my first school Color Run in a couple of weeks!
Math
Your child will be bringing home their Math Take Home Folder today. In their folder you will find the tasks that they completed this week. The scores on these sheets do not go in the grade book; they are just a way for students to monitor their learning. You will also see a sheet that you can sign and return, informing me that you looked through these papers. Please take the papers out of the folder; there is no need to bring them back to school.
BizTown
Next week Thursday, BizTown Mayor candidates will record their speeches for their fellow classmates to view. After watching all of the candidates' speeches; students will vote!
