Review

I recently completed the captivating novel in verse T4 by Anne Clare LeZotte. From the first moment I caught sight of this book, I wanted to read it, but T4 turned out to be such a disappointment. I'm sorry to be so critical about a book that deals with such a tragic topic. I mean, I'm glad this book exists, but I think it was a little skimpy to be powerful, but that's just my opinion. I think it was too information-packed. T4 is not written in its ordinary form, is not a book of extensive length and does not have a plot that is actually unfolded by the actions or thoughts, and speech of the characters. In fact, it does not have much of a plot at all.
You would think that the story of a deaf girl that is forced into hiding to avoid being sent to die at the hands of some Nazi doctors because they thought it was bad to keep people that had a disability would be emotionally exciting or interesting. Yet, somehow LeZotte manages to write in such a calm tone or manner that I couldn't even feel for Paula, the main character, or what could happen to her. LeZotte had a very good opportunity to put some real weight to her story. Especially knowing that she had to deal with growing up deaf in a world that hears! I think the author did not do a very good job on this book and honestly I would not recommend it.
