Newsletter Week 9 Term 2
Shelly Park School - Wednesday 29th of June 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Parents and Whānau
This will be the last newsletter of the term. Term 2 has been eventful. It has been great to see school sport and EOTC trips back up and running again. Last week we had students from Howick College come into the school to talk to our students about different areas of science, this was a great experience for our Pod 3 students. Cross country training is also well under way with the school competition taking place next Wednesday, 6th of July.
Unfortunately, Term 2 has also delivered the winter bugs. A few staff and a number of students have been struck down with colds and flus over the past month. All schools have noticed a large increase in illness and we can only hope that after a two week break, we can reset and have a healthier Term 3.
The Co2 monitors, that we installed in all classrooms at the end of last year, have proven their worth. With outside temperatures getting colder we are able to monitor carefully when classrooms need fresh air, and can get this message to the classroom teachers quickly. This not only keeps the air flow moving through the classrooms but we are also noticing more alert students, as the fresh air assists with concentration levels.
The Craft Fair, that took place on Sunday, 19th of June, was a great success. We had a huge turn out and our students were excited to sell their items and check out what others had made. A huge thank you to Willow Van-As and Hayley Gahan for pulling the day together. I know they had other helpers too, so thank you to all that helped.
The University of Auckland is looking for volunteers for a free speech-language therapy for children, if you are concerned about your child's talking.
The SLT Clinic are offering free speech-language therapy for children at their Grafton teacher clinics.
If you are interested, please read the flyer and click the link: referral form. Then fill out the referral form and email back to clinics@auckland.ac.nz
Finally, I would like to acknowledge Mrs Rolfe, as she will be stepping down from her position as Assistant Principal at the end of Term 2. She has give such wonderful service to the school, especially in Pod 4 over the last 15 years, and that includes many camp experiences. Mrs Rolfe will still be teaching at Shelly Park, but will be a member of the Pod 4 team instead of leading it.
Taking over from Mrs Rolfe will be Mrs Tomlinson. Mrs Tomlinson brings great experience and knowledge to this role and we are excited to have such a wonderful teacher, and leader, stepping into to this position.
We will enjoy the last week and a half with our students at school. We then look forward to some non contact time where everyone can recharge the batteries and prepare for an exciting Term 3, which kicks off with camp, for our Pod 4 students, and new hall that we can actually use.
Enjoy the Term Break with your children.
Ngā mihi
