Big picture

Welcome to Kennedy-Powell Elementary, a Project Lead the Way Nationally Distinguished campus! Kennedy-Powell is also proud to be recognized as an ERP Honor Roll School by educational and business leaders in Texas. Our mission is to inspire students to become lifelong learners who thrive in a global society. Our dedicated staff are incredible advocates for the success of all children.

Our students have the qualities of great designers and innovators! Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Launch taps into their exploratory nature, engages them in learning that feels like play, and encourages them to keep discovering – now and for years to come.

PLTW brings learning to life. The program empowers students to adopt a design-thinking mindset through compelling activities, projects, and problems that build upon each other and relate to the world around them. As students engage in hands-on activities in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, they become creative, collaborative problem solvers ready to take on any challenge.

KP Stars have a rich history of excellence! We have a close partnership of students, staff, parents, volunteers, and community where EVERYBODY WORKS TOGETHER! Kennedy-Powell is filled with eager to learn students, supportive and involved parents, and an enthusiastic staff committed to a quality education.

Mrs. Hesse - 3rd grade teacher

KP STAR TEACHER SPOTLIGHT CELEBRATES KELLI HESSE! Mrs. Hesse has been in education 19 years, 15 in Temple. The best thing about teaching for Mrs. Hesse is the relationships she builds with students that last way beyond the year they were in her class. The best advice she’s ever been given is from her mom who said, “You can’t please all people, so be the best you can be, and don’t worry about pleasing everyone.” Thank you, Mrs. Hesse, you’re the BEST!

Mrs. Sims - 1st grade teacher

KP Teacher of the Year, Laurie Sims was named the Temple Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Ms. Williamson - Kinder teacher

Ms. Williamson has been a teacher for 13 years. Her favorite part about teaching is the “light bulb moments” and how excited students get when they discover something new and amazing. The person she admires the most is her mom who has been a constant source of inspiration and encouragement. Her mother’s devotion to family, selflessness, and heart for others shaped Ms. Williamson to be the teacher she is today. Thank you, Ms. Williamson for all you do!

Wildcat Mentors

Give a little time, get a lot in return. It only takes two hours a month to make a huge difference in the life of a child. Mentoring helps kids stay off drugs, out of gangs and in school. Mentors help kids think BIG so they can fulfill their dreams. The best part is, you’ll not only see what it does for them, you’ll feel what it does for YOU.

Wildcat Mentor Application

If you want to become a Mentor, please fill out and send your application to:

Family Access

Parents and guardians of Temple ISD students can access information about their child(ren) online through Family Access. Family Access is a secure web service that allows the user to view attendance, grades, assignments, vaccinations, schedules, and more. Students can log onto Family Access with their TISD login and password. Family Access is provided by TISD as a free service and will be available to all parents with children enrolled in the district. To request a Family Access account, contact your child's school. You can also download the Skyward Mobile Access app from the iTunes or Google Play store.

Skylert is an automated system used by the district and campuses to send out information. You may receive Skylert calls about attendance, emergencies, transportation, school nutrition, or school events. If you are receiving calls that you should not be, please contact your child's school or the Technology Help Desk (215-6883) to make that necessary corrections.

You can now customize the calls made from your child’s school (formerly School Messenger) by setting the options in Skylert.

  1. To set the options, log into Family Access.
  2. Click on the Skylert link on the left. Your phone and email contact information that is already on file with the school will display in Skylert.
  3. If any of the contact information is incorrect, you can change it on the Skylert screen and it will automatically update in the student management system (Skyward).
  4. NOTE: Only the Primary Contact that is listed for the child in Skyward can change the Primary Phone number. Add contact numbers and emails as appropriate. Check the type of notifications next to the number or email address. If you wish to receive notification by text, be sure and add the appropriate phone(s) under Text Message Numbers.
