CAR RIDER REMINDERS
AM Car Rider Reminders
• Staff will be on the sidewalk to supervise students exiting their cars, beginning at 7:45. Please do not allow your child to exit the car until a member of the staff is present.
• It is very important to be courteous to other drivers. Also, please drive carefully and put your phone away to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
• Staff will wave you forward and will let you know when it is safe for your student to exit the car.
• Car rider staff will only assist your child in exiting the car if needed. Please make sure your child is able to unbuckle their seatbelt and open the car door independently.
• At 8:10, staff will proceed to walk back to their classrooms. If you miss the window, you must park and come inside to check your child in.
• On rainy days, you can anticipate a longer car rider line.
PM Car Rider Reminders
• If afternoon car rider is not your child’s “usual” transportation, their classroom teacher will need a handwritten note from a parent/guardian that allows them to be car riders for that afternoon (E-mails and phone calls are not accepted). If the classroom teacher does not receive a handwritten note, your child will need to go home their usual way.
• Car Riders must be picked up no later than 3:10 pm. We will walk “late” students to the front office and reach out to a parent/guardian. You will need to pick up your child from the front office and sign a “late” form.
• Please hang your 2022-2023 car rider tag in your rearview mirror.
• Please be patient with us as we are trying to locate and load car riders every afternoon. Also, please practice reciting car rider numbers with your child so that we can load them as quickly and safely as possible! Thank you for your help and cooperation!
Dental Mobile Bus
Dental Mobile Bus is coming to Beaver Ridge ES, Wednesday October 12 from 8:45 to 2:00.
Applications went home this week.
School breaks can be both an exciting and stressful time for families. Click below for some tips from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Strong4Life to help your elementary-aged child build resilience and enjoy school breaks.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Early Release Days for Parent-Teacher Conferences are Wednesday, October 19th and Thursday, October 20th.
Students will be dismissed at 11:45 AM on those days. If your student is a walker/car rider/day-care rider, please make any necessary transportation arrangements for your child. Buses will drop students off at their stop at an earlier time.
Beaver Ridge Elementary will be utilizing an online scheduling system for this conference session. Click below to schedule a conference.
Here’s How to Make the Most of Your Parent-Teacher Conference
Preparation is the key to a successful parent teacher conference. Here’s how to get the most benefit from your meeting:
Before the conference:
• Make a list of things you’d like to tell the teacher, such as your child’s favorite subjects and activities, difficulties in school, medical needs and any sensitive issues.
• Make a list of things to ask the teacher about, such as your child’s work habits, attitude, behavior,
strengths and weaknesses.
• Let your child know you are having a conference. Ask if there’s anything you and the teacher should discuss.
During the conference:
• Be on time. Teachers have many conferences, and a five-minute delay can throw off the schedule.
• Listen carefully and take notes about your child’s progress.
• Be positive. Remember: You and your child’s teacher both want what’s best for your child.
• Make a plan with the teacher to address any concerns and schedule a time to follow up.
After the conference:
• Let your child know how the conference went.
• Start with positive comments. Then, talk about any suggestions the teacher made—and how you plan to help your child carry these out.
Name It & Save It!
Be sure to write your child's first and last name inside jackets, coats, and shirts. As cooler weather arrives, Beaver Ridge's lost & found items significantly increase. This will help us return lost items to their owners.
Imagine Learning Literacy at Home
Imagine Learning Language & Literacy
Follow these simple steps to help your child begin using their Imagine Learning program:
1. Please use a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer. Cell phones are not supported. Make sure your child is working independently.
2. Contact your child's teacher to receive their login credentials
- Still not able to login? Email or text Support
3. Parents and caregivers watch an orientation video (in English or Spanish)
4. Students in Language & Literacy watch this video (in English or Spanish)
5. Students can learn about Booster Bits in English or Spanish
School Safety and Security
Fifteen schools are equipped with secure vestibules as an extra layer of security. Nineteen other schools are in the process of getting the security upgrade and Beaver Ridge Elementary is one of them. All visitors have to be buzzed in through the first set of doors, and then they check in with a staff member, go through the raptor system, and then at that point when they are cleared, they're buzzed in through another set of doors. The construction to install he vestibule will be scheduled for this fall.
The Student Safety and Wellness section on the GCPS website is a valuable resource for information about health and school safety, as well as links for the Parent Portal and SchoolMessenger. One of the most important things all families can do is make sure their emergency contact information is accurate and up to date every year.
Please make sure that anyone picking up your child or joining them for lunch is on the emergency list. We cannot release a child to anyone not listed as a parent and/or on the emergency list. You can check and update this information on the parent portal. These changes can only made by the enrolling parent. If you need support with the process, please stop by the school and remember to bring ID.
Do You Have a Parent Portal Account?
You may have heard about Gwinnett's Parent Portal. The Parent Portal is a website that will allow you to log in and see your child's information, such as attendance, grades, standardized test scores, etc. Click the button below to access to create your account.
A Peaceful Home Environment Promotes a Sense of Well-being
Today’s students are facing high levels of stress and anxiety, as the aftermath of the pandemic continues to affect children’s mental health.
Here are some simple things you can do at home to support your child’s mental and emotional health:
• Remember the big three: good nutrition, adequate sleep and exercise. These are the keys to overall wellness.
• Encourage laughter. Laughter should be a part of each day. Have everyone share favorite funny shows, movies, jokes and stories.
• Share good things. Every day, have each family member report one good thing that happened. Try to do this during a family meal and write down the responses in a family gratitude journal.
• Share stress-relief strategies. Teach your child to take deep breaths, go for a walk or turn on some relaxing music when feeling anxious or stressed.
• Stay organized. An organized, clutter-free home creates a more peaceful environment for everyone. It also teaches your child how to take care of belongings.
• Stay connected. Listen when your child shares concerns, and offer reassurance. If you become worried about your child, make an appointment with the pediatrician
