CAMP ACADEMICS

GREETINGS

This week will bring us to Christmas Break. The students have worked hard this year. I have seen many gains academically as well as socially. I really love this group of kids. The students need to rest during this deserved break. I would encourage you to have your child continue to read for enjoyment during the break.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and am looking forward to a fun and bountiful new year.

READING/WRITING

We have finished our study of Pat Mora's books. The children were introduced to books that they probably would not have read on their own. We will spend this week learning how to write letters correctly. When I got back from my absence, I tested all the kids to see how much they had advanced. I was happy with the results! Most every student went up at least one level. Thank you once again for reading with your child every night.

MATH

We are doing a fabulous job at knowing our math facts. We can whip through the math worksheets that we use for review. I am so proud of them. We will be reviewing addition and subtraction this week. I am going to give the students some problems that look like this:

  • _____ = _____ + _____

  • _____ + 7 = 15

  • 7 + 8 + 3 = _____

SCIENCE

We will be reviewing natural resources and the properties of soil. We will have a test on these concepts on Thursday.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will be working on building a model community.

We will be able to use all the information we have learned about communities to build our models.

PEARLS OF WISDOM:

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.
