Euthanasia

Why is euthanasia such a controversial topic?

Background info on Euthanasia

Euthanasia comes from a greek word Eu (good) and Thanatosis (death) therefore it means "good death". The first use of euthanasia was by a Roman Historian named Suetonius. Euthanasia was regarded as a peacefull death untill the end of the 19th century. The effort to leagalize euthanasia began in the usa in the first 20 years of the 20th century. Adof Hitler admaired Hoche's writhing so, anyone in a state institution could be sent to the gas chamber. For years people have been trying to leagalize it to have a painless death.
Natile's story

Natile had a brain injury, and after the surgery she had organ failure, so they had to take out here feeding tube to have her pass away. This is pure toucher to starve her when her death could have been 30 seconds.

A Painless Death

Today some illnesses invole physical pain that cannot be realieved by modern drugs, therefore terminally ill patients who wish to avoid the pain can't do anything about it. Alowwing euthanasia would let those patients die quick if they want to, then days of pain and slowly dying. Euthanasia is a painless death unlike... in some cases taking the paitents off the life support or removing the feeding tube.

Think about it

Think about how you would feel if a loved one was dying right infront of your eyes and they were suffering. Would you want them to not suffer any longer and their death be quick? Or have them suffer in pain till their death?

Dangers

  • Changing the law would create a legal situation in which the state licenses death in advance and sanctions the death of certain citzens
  • we shouldn't ask doctors, who have a duty of care, to be involed in the killing of a paitent
  • changing the law would send a message that the lives of some are not worth living, so it may steer them to an early death
  • leagalizing euthanasia puts elders and disabled people at risk
  • Laws against euthanasia and assisted suicide are in place to prevent abuse and to protect people from unscrupulous doctors and others. They are not, and never have been, intended to make anyone suffer

Benefits

  • There are different conditions of terminal illness that have signs of improvement and show different ways to life with a positive attitude but cases that are extreme are the ones that are prone to adopt Euthanasia
  • The approximate cost of the drugs required to perform a painless assisted suicide is $35, 0.0875% of the cost of extended treatment
  • a pain free death unlike suffering till your death
  • if a terminally ill patient who is undergoing severe pain and suffering it can be ended in about a minute
  • a pain free death unlike suffering till your death

My thought

I feel euthanasia should be legal. If one of my loved were in pain and in a mental state and nothing could help them, and they were in pain I think it is right to do that. Many people think euthanasia is just for pets but think about it are pets suffer so we put them to sleep why can't people have that option to? I'm pro euthanasia.

So why is Euthanasia such a controversial topic?

  • Peolpe have diffrent opinions
  • They feel we need to die naturally
  • People don't want their loved ones to suffer
  • Some feel doctors should not be involed in a paitents killing
  • Doctors have done all they could
