From the Principal

Hello Panther Families!

As we gear up for another exciting academic year, we want to extend a warm welcome to both our returning families and those who are joining us for the first time. We are thrilled to have you as part of our school community!

At Prairie Creek we are dedicated to providing your child with the best possible education and fostering an environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our passionate and experienced team of educators is prepared to guide, inspire, and challenge your children as they embark on this new journey of learning.

As you talk with your child every night about their school day, I want you to ask them, “What did you learn today?” versus asking them, “ What did you do today?”. There is quite a

difference in those two questions.

We value and appreciate your involvement in your child's education.

One of things I noticed during my first year as the principal here at Prairie Creek was how you supported our school in so many ways. It's clear to me how you value your child’s education and take an active role.

Like last year, there will be numerous occasions for you to get involved in school activities, committees, and events. Your support, whether through volunteering to help with events that our PTO plans, attending school functions, or participating in fundraising efforts, greatly contributes to the overall success of our school community.

Clear and open communication is a cornerstone of our Home/School partnership. We encourage you to reach out to your child's teachers, counselors, and administrators with any questions, concerns, or suggestions you may have throughout the year.

Regular updates about your child's progress and school activities will be shared through our school messenger emails, school website, monthly newsletters, and Facebook posts. Individual classrooms also have newsletters, emails, and posts that that would love for you

to read to stay up to date on the latest classroom happenings.

Please be sure to keep the school informed of any updated phone numbers or email addresses.

We are excited about the potential and possibilities that this school year holds. Together, we will nurture your child's growth, curiosity, and love for learning.

Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education.

Here's to a successful, inspiring, and fulfilling academic year ahead!

Warm regards,

Mr. Springer

Counselor's Corner

Welcome back! I am Ms. Hunt, the school counselor at Prairie Creek Elementary.

My email is huntt@usd385.org and phone ext. Is 316-218-4830 ext. 56108.

I am so glad to be back this year with our wonderful students, staff and families.

My role as school counselor is to help all of our students be successful.

The Prairie Creek school counseling program includes lessons in every classroom. These lessons utilize a developmentally appropriate curriculum focused on the mindsets and behaviors all students need for a fulfilling and successful life.

Safer Smarter Kids is a personal safety curriculum taught in kindergarten through fifth grade classes. There are four lessons for each grade level.

I read a story to PreK classes about emotions and behaviors each month.

In addition to lessons, students can receive short term counseling, either individually or in groups during lunch time. During these times I help students with issues, needs and challenges to help them achieve their goals.

If you are someone you know is having financial difficulties and could use some assistance with food, The Andover Community Food bank is a good resource. The Andover Community Food Bank (316) 390-6815 if you have any questions for them. It is open Tuesday: 10 am-1 pm, Wednesday: 3 pm - 6 pm. 1429 N. Andover Rd. Andover, KS 67002.

MUSIC NEWS FROM MRS. ROUTH

Hello! We are off to an awesome start of our new year!

We’ve been singing, dancing, playing instruments, learning new belts on our recorders (4th and 5th ) and singing some great patriotic songs.

The third grade is getting ready to play recorders by learning about the recorder, its history, reading notes on the staff and so much more. Third grade parents will soon be receiving a note about ordering recorders for their child.

If any 4th or 5th grade students need a new recorder, I have new ones available to purchase for $7.00.

Prairie Creek Singers is off to a fantastic start with 47 members!

This choir is made up of 4th and 5th graders who love to sing!

We have our first performance on September 30th , 4:00 p.m. at the Amphitheater in Central Park for Greater Andover Days.

The kids are working hard and getting ready to pick their t-shirts for the new year.

My goal for each class I teach is that the students Sing, Move, Play Instruments, Listen to music by great composers or groups, read music and have FUN! That’s a lot to cover in 45 minutes but it is all so important.

I LOVE teaching your children.

PROGRAM DATES

Please mark your calendars with the following program dates.

The K-2 program will be on Thursday, February 8th , 7:00 p.m. at Andover Central HS auditorium.

The 3-5 program will be on Thursday, March 7th , 7:00 p.m. at Andover Central HS auditorium.

****SPECIAL NOTE**** The 3-5 program is the night right before Spring Break starts. I wanted to make sure you all knew in plenty of time. It was not my first choice for the program but the scheduling for all the schools on the south side, band, orchestra, choir and three elementary is not easy.

To be honest we elementary schools are guests at the high school and everyone else has priority over us. I’m just happy we get to use their facility.

I hope this gives you an idea of what your children are doing in music class. We have such fun!

Thank you for such great children to teach

From the Art Room

Hello from the Art Room!

I’m so excited to be back in the art room with all of our wonderful Prairie Creek students.

We are beginning the year learning about what respect looks like in the

art classroom; listening with our whole body; and the Elements of Art and Design.

Third, fourth, and fifth grades are beginning the year by creating a grade level

mural filled with line, shape, and color to be displayed at the Andover District Office.

These displays will be up for a short time for you to view, beginning on

Monday, September 11, until the end of the month.

Kindergarten, first, and second grades are also beginning the year creating with line, shape, and color.

Line, shape, and color are three elements of art and design.

We will learn about the rest of the elements of art and design throughout the

year (texture, value, space, form).

Here are some items I could use in the art room:

Clean cottage cheese, yogurt, sour cream containers

Clean egg cartons

Craft/art materials you no longer need or want

Artfully,

Mrs. Clark

A Note from the High School

Dear Parents & Guardians,

As we kick off this year’s sports seasons, we would like to ask your help in making our events safe and enjoyable for all who attend. We want our events to be places where we gather as a community to celebrate the accomplishments of our students.

In the past, middle school and older elementary school students play sports, run and engage in other horseplay during athletic events, and this has created safety concerns both for those students and others in attendance.

  • We will not allow balls to be brought into the stadium, gym or other event venue.

  • Students engaging in running, horseplay or other dangerous activities will be asked to leave the venue, and may be banned from future events.

  • Students are expected to sit in the stands and watch the game.

Due to the large number of people attending high school varsity football games, and past challenges involving unattended middle school and upper elementary students, it is necessary to make adjustments to our admittance into high school football games. We have witnessed inappropriate behaviors including verbal altercations, physical altercations, littering, foul language, AirDropping inappropriate pictures, playing football in the crowd, and other disruptive and disrespectful actions at football games. In order to ensure that all of our fans and spectators can enjoy the games in a safe and positive environment, the following policy for student admittance into football games at Andover High School (Trojan Stadium) and Andover Central High School (Jaguar Stadium) are as follows:

  • Elementary and middle school students will not be admitted into the stadium without a parent or guardian who has also purchased a ticket. The student will be expected to enter the stadium with the parent/guardian, and to be under the supervision of their parent/guardian during the event. Students should sit with their parent/guardian in the stands.

  • High school students will need to show their school ID along with their ticket or activity pass. This will be required of all high school students entering the stadium.

  • Students who are asked to leave the facility by School Resource Officers or school administration may be restricted from attending future school events.

We appreciate your assistance in ensuring a safe and orderly environment at games. If you have questions, please contact your child’s school.

Dismissal

A reminder that you need to send a note to your child’s teacher, or you can call the office, if their after school routine is different in any way. This communication with your child’s teacher is of the utmost importance. Without notification, your child will be dismissed in the same manner as indicated by the parent at the start of the year.

Reminders

* If your student will not be at school:

  • Please notify our office so we can excuse your child's absence.
  • If your student has a pre-planned absence and will be out for more than three consecutive days please let the office or teacher know so an Extended Absence form can be completed.

* If your student is late or returning from an appointment:
  • Please call our office at (316)218-4830 to let us know your student will be late and if a school lunch is needed.
  • Office staff will check students in, parents do not need to accompany their student, unless other information needs to be shared.

* If you are checking your student out for an appointment or for the day:
  • Please call our office at (316) 218-4830 to let us know your student is leaving. If you are picking them up at the end of the day it needs to be by 3:15 in order to avoid conflict with the busses.
  • Office staff will sign out your student electronically for you.
  • You may wait in your vehicle outside, at the curb, and we will send your student out upon your arrival.

Car Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures

Everyone has done a fabulous job of cooperating and working together to help support dismissal of our students. Please remember to stay in your car in the line. Your child MUST enter from the curb side. Both of these are extremely important components to keeping everyone safe.

Please remember that doors don't open until 8:35, so children need to remain in their vehicles with you until that time.

Also, do not drop a child off in front of the school, that is reserved for busses only.
