JOIN US! Chartwell Earth Day Gathering - Saturday, April 22 - 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Think globally - act locally. That's the theme for our inaugural Earth Day gathering at Chartwell School, Saturday, April 22 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Come and learn, work, and play:

First, you'll learn briefly about Ocean Guardian and how our school is working to protect our watershed through education and stewardship.

Then we'll get to work in small groups for 60-90 minute activities such as removing non-native plants, removing debris around the campus, and planting native plants donated by local organization Habitat Stewardship Project.

After we work - let's play! Come picnic on the Chartwell field and enjoy some live music from our resident reggae artist, Danny Cunningham. We'll have games set up on the field, and a chance to meet our friendly flock of chickens by the fruit orchard. Feel free to bring your own games.

Gloves and other protective gear will be provided. Bring your own reusable bottle and pack your own lunch for the picnic on the field; we will have some fruit and snacks as well. If you have any questions, please contact Topher Mueller at tmueller@chartwell.org

BOGO Book Fair - Next Week!

Chartwell's Spring BOGO (buy one get one free!) book fair will take place next week, Monday, April 17 - Thursday, April 20.

It will be open for shopping:

Morning drop-off (8:00 am - 8:30 am)

Break (10:20 am - 10:40 am)

Lunch (12:15 pm - 1:25 pm)

Volunteers are needed to help our young shoppers - please sign-up here. Homerooms will also visit the Book Fair throughout the week.

Safe, Cash-Free Shopping

Families can set up an eWallet (a safe, cash-free way for your child to shop) from Chartwell's Book Fair homepage. From there, an eWallet information page will display. Families will be asked to sign in to Scholastic registration or set up a new account. All on-screen instructions should be followed to complete the eWallet setup.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day: Important Information for All Chartwell LMS Families

Friday, April 21 - Grandparents and Special Friends Day

NOON DISMISSAL for LMS

Light lunch buffet provided for all LMS students and guests.

Next Friday, April 21 is the Lower and Middle School Grandparents and Special Friends Day. We are excited to host guests for the morning and have a wonderful program planned. We have about 50 percent of our LMS students bringing guests. Students without guests will be included in all activities, including lunch, and will be invited to partner with friends and classmates if they’d like to.

Guests need to RSVP. Please ensure your guests have responded to Nancy Da Silva at info@chartwell.org or 831-394-3468 so teachers can be prepared for space in their rooms. Space will be a challenge and understanding the number of guests attending is critical to our planning.

Please note:

  • A light lunch buffet (assorted sandwiches and salads, chips, cookies, and beverages) will be provided for ALL LMS students and guests as an option. You are welcome to pack a lunch if your student prefers.

  • Pizza will not be available on this day due to the special lunch being provided.

  • Friday, April 21 is a noon dismissal day. If you cannot adjust your schedule for this earlier pick-up, faculty will be available to watch students until the regular pick-up time at 1:00 pm.

  • If you would like your child to leave with your special guest at noon, please ensure they are on your approved pick-up list. Email Roz Harris at rharris@chartwell.org if you need to make any additions to your approved pick-up list.

Additional details will be shared directly with guests early next week (parking, directions, etc..) If you have any questions, please email info@chartwell.org.

Thank you for your support as we bring back this favorite tradition.

Project Period 4: Important Information and Service Options

For our fourth Project Period of the year, students will get to volunteer in various capacities at local non-profit organization. Students will spend each of the six Fridays in this quarter working as part of a small team (with at least one teacher chaperone) to support a local non-profit.

Students need to be dropped off and picked up at the location, so it’s important that the location they selected works well for their family/carpool. Please note that SPCA and Meals on Wheels require students to be age 16 before 4/14. Please also note that all organizations' hours are 9:00-12:30 with the exception of Dorothy’s kitchen in Salinas, which has 8:00-11:30 as the hours.

Below are the groups and locations. Please carefully look to see what your student has chosen and consider pick-up and drop-off issues. Families that carpool can communicate with each other about a shared location. We do not have the option for teachers to pick-up and drop-off students for most locations. You should have received an email with additional information that is specific to your student's assigned organization.
