Hendrick Ranch Huskies Excel in Distance Learning!
English Learner Family Resource
Kids are natural scientists. What makes a rainbow? Why do bananas get brown? These activities help kids explore the big, wild world and think about what scientists do through processes like observation and conducting experiments. Don't worry - you don't have to be a scientist yourself to try them!

Hendrick Ranch Elementary is an AVID School!
What is AVID Elementary?
In its 30-plus years, AVID has proven time and time again that, when given a system of rigorous curriculum and strategic support, students can be academically successful. AVID Elementary is a foundational component of the AVID College Readiness System and supports AVID’s mission and vision to provide a comprehensive model of success for all students, from elementary through higher education.Based on the same learning foundation that underlies AVID Secondary, AVID Elementary is designed to be embedded into the daily instruction of all elementary classrooms, across entire grade levels, to impact school-wide structures. Like AVID Secondary, AVID Elementary Essentials focus on the four necessary areas to ensure that all students are poised for academic success: Instruction, Culture, Leadership, and Systems.
AVID Elementary incorporates:
- Student Success Skills – encompassing communication skills (e.g. listening, speaking, writing), self-advocacy skills, note-taking strategies, critical thinking, and study skills.
- Organizational Skills – both mental and physical; students learn to use organizational tools, as well as learn and practice skills around time management and goal-setting.
- WICOR Lessons – emphasize instruction on writing to learn, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading to learn in all content areas.
- Partnerships – among students, classrooms, grade levels, schools, feeder patterns, families, and communities.
What is Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS)?
PBIS includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for all students and all staff in all settings. PBIS is not a program or a curriculum. It is a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning, and evaluation. It is an approach to creating a safe and productive learning environment where teachers can teach and all students can learn.
We have adopted a unified set of school rules. Similar to the Code of Student Conduct, these rules define our expectations for behavior in our school and online. You will see these rules posted throughout the school, as a part of distance learning and your child will be learning them throughout their time at school.
The 7 Husky Habits at Hendrick Ranch are in alignment with PBIS expectations. Please talk with your student about the Husky Habit of the week!
